porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Jun 20, 2008 (Bottled week 2, Nov. (’07 presumably) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/westborough/julio’s-liquors/461.htm target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Bitter and chocolatey...Pours very dark brown with rubyish highlights. Four fingers of tan head that settle to about 1/4" of a lasting cap. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth, a touch thin but still lightly milk-shakey. Lots of broken rings of lacing. Flavor is mostly dark bitter chocolate with a touch of slightly over-cooked coffee. Fairly bitter overall. Touch of grassiness in finish. Decent. Enjoyit (1697), Vadum, Denmark Jun 20, 2008 Deep brown of color with a nice brown head. An aroam with notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and hints of dark fruits. A flavor with notes of malt, hay and coffee notes. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark clear dark brown with initial one finger tan head that fades into a thin soap screen which results in some nice lacing. Nose is mild with chocolate mainly coming through. Taste is cocoa and mild coffee with a bitter hoppy finish. Thin mouth feel. It’s a decent session porter, but there’s nothing robust about this robust porter. GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Jun 16, 2008 Updated: Mar 8, 2009Pours mahogany with a tan head that dissipates quickly leaving little lacing behind. Very nice roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Interesting taste, starts out with the roasted coffee and chocolate flavor that quickly turns bitter and very dry from the hop presence.
Updated 3/7/09 enjoyed more the second time around rmussman (905), California, USA Jun 7, 2008 A very well crafted brew. Pours dark but not cloudy. A thin thin head. Aroma is strong but sweet. Mouthfeel is smooth and flavor is a little tart but overall very flavorful and worth a try. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 7, 2008 Had this beer at the great divide tap room on draught. I had it after the Hercules double IPA and it was a nice change of pace. Pours a deep mahogany, with very little head. Roasty aroma. Had a nice soft flavor, fully of roasty malty flavors. The roast was so complex and deep that I kind of sat at the bar and stared at the beer for a while, I probably looked really drunk. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Jun 6, 2008 Black color, coffee / choc. taste and aroma. Sweet with some hops. Bitter dry finish. More malt than hops. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA May 21, 2008 Bottle, pours nice and dark wtih a nice light brown head. Aroma is smoky and coffee. Initial hit on the tongue is carbonation followed by coffee, chocolate and a bit of a thin mouthfeel. Flavor is nice. Palate leaves something to be desired.
