cathcacr (586), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 24, 2007 I would be remiss in my duties not to report that I’m not jaded by superior craft beer in the wake of which I had this. This is watery and mild by comparison. Relative to a ridiculously high standard of excellence, this falls short. The aroma presents chocolately and coffeeey, but it’s thin-bodied, and not really head there to speak of and the body is thin and the palate is smokey yet overloaded by watery tendencies and I’m just left having to downgrade a good beer into the kinda average category. Sorry to be such an ass, but it has to be done for everybody’s good. 2/3rds of a great beer. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Sep 23, 2007 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Weak aroma of malt and caramel. Taste is also malty with some caramel flavor. Mouthfeel was thin with a good amount of carbonation. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Sep 16, 2007 A Mes rate:
355ml bottle at home with the lady. Dark almost opaque brown with a red hue at the edges. Roasted malty coffee with some sweet vanilla and a very slight soapyness. Sweet milky flavour with some caramel malt and milk chocolate. Very slight tartness. Plum? Finishes with a little cardboard and not enough good stuff. Decent but not great. Still surprised it isn’t a little more highly rated however. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Sep 13, 2007 Bottle Black pour with minimal head. Light roasty aroma followed by a roasty, hoppy flavor. Rich flavor. Pretty good porter. NickVega (72), Eugene, Oregon, USA Sep 13, 2007 Looks of Porter, Smell, Taste (Tastes good). But Robust it ain’t. I love Great Divide for their GUNS - the Yeti etc... -- St Bridgets is nice enough. MattShizzle (385), Bernville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 9, 2007 Bottle - from sampler pack. Very dark - opaque. Rich, chocolatey smell. An excellent porter. Very rich flavor - roasty, but not overly so becoming a stout. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Sep 9, 2007 Pours a dark brown/ebony color with faint ruby-red highlights. Forms a nice thick and enduring tan head with superb retention throughout the entire glass. No lacing noted. Aromas of dark roasted malts, coffee, Baker’s chocolate, raisins, figs and an earthy hop presnce are noted. Nose was pleasant overall, just a bit too tame. Mouthfeel was somewhat disappointing being slightly thin and watery along with too much fizz for the style. A smoother, creamier texture would have been more enjoyable. Flavor profile much more assertive as compared to the nose with notes of burnt malts, dark caramel, raisins, coffee, bittersweet chocolate and some faint black licorice. Finishes slightly sweet with a touch of hop bitterness. Not a bad Porter, but there are many more out there that are better. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2007 12 oz. brown, longneck bottle. Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with a persistent tan colored head. Aromas are of roasted malts, caramel, some wildflower honey notes. Flavors are kind of sweet, but roasty all the same. Decent body, medium mouthfeel. Good porter overall.
