nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 13, 2007 Bottled 2nd week of January; I assume this is 2007. Nearly opaque brown-black with a medium and mostly lasting head. Aroma of chocolate pine. Flavor has smoked pine hop with cocoa and molasses, raisins, some scorched brown sugar and toasted marshmallow. Wow! Finish is excellent: tingly-bitter herb hops balancing all the malt complexity. Palate is medium-heavy and tingly with both hops and carbonation. Almost a stout with some extra hops; very nice! Way underrated. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Jul 13, 2007 Clear dark brown color, short head. Aroma of heavy licorice, some coffee, bit hop, chocolat. Bit watery coffee taste, sirupy, licorice. Reasonable stuff. rotoguru (93), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jul 12, 2007 Black with hazy red tone when held up to the light with thin tan head that dwindles to a white ring. Nose laced with chocolate and ethyl/isopropyl alcohol notes. Burnt chocolate and black malts dominate and mild alcohol and burnt coffee aftertaste. Good but not exciting. DrHomolka (725), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 11, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma is old coffee grounds. Not appetizing. Some dark fruits, roastiness, and slight chocolate in there as well but not in a pleasant way. I swear I smell some ketchup in there too. Taste is very, very watery with a slightly roasty finish. I love Great Divide but this is weak. elgiacomo (64), Ringgold, Georgia, USA Jul 9, 2007 Pours a very dark brown with a tiny tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma and flavor are a bit lacking...having a hard time really pinpointing anything other than roasted malts. Body is quite light and thin with a good amount of carbonation. Light and lively mouthfeel. I personally prefer thicker and less carbonated beers. However, it’s still pretty good overall and quite drinkable. I don’t regret the purchase but I think I’d rather go with Anchor Porter for the same price. Glazed9884 (207), USA Jun 30, 2007 xxx I’ve never met a porter I didn’t like. That being considered, there are many better porters out there, but this is still plenty drinkable. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jun 30, 2007 the perfect summer porter. Lots of carbination, smooth flavor. Roasted malts on the mouthfeel JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jun 23, 2007 Pours a very dark brown color with a 2 cm thick light tan head. Sweet rost flavor with a small hint of smokiness and a bit of dark chocolate. Creamy palate. Smooth taste - dark roast character throughout with a satisfyingly dry finish. I’m definitely going to put this into the session rotation.
