jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA May 21, 2007 Very dark and mysterious in the glass. Aromas of roasted, dark chocolate, coffee. Tastes are much the same, with an added cherry malted element that plays well with the detectible hop presence in the brew. Nice finish. A bit chalky/astringent. Barrel-aging would be a nice touch for this one... EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA May 20, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of strong chocolate malt and light hops. Touch of dry roast. Deep ruby black body with rocky, lacing tanned head. Very robust taste, medium roast and chocolate with dark fruitiness. Sweet with a touch of bitterness. Light body and smooth mf. Dry, slightly woody aftertaste. Definitely needs more body, but, on the whole, absolutely lovely! MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2007 Bottle from Stake Line. Sampled with Stegosaurus. Black pour with roast aroma. Taste was heavy roast but lacking in blend with hop and alcohol. This was just ok for me. FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland May 14, 2007 Updated: Jun 25, 2007355ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki , American Week 2007).
Doesn’t know what it wants to be. Some bitterness, some sourness, and, as common in US beers, plenty of sweetness. Not particularly well combined either, a bit chemical. FrankJohansen (3327), Sabro, Denmark May 14, 2007 Bottle. Dark ruby colour with a nice light brown colour. Rich aroma and taste of roasted malts, coffee and licorice. Medium palate. HenrikSoegaard (4260), Randers, Denmark May 13, 2007 Bottle. Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Dark brown colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Licorice notes. Light sweet and bitter flavor. Average finish. Oatmeal and licorice notes. Oily palate. bierkoning (5985), La Tropica, Netherlands May 13, 2007 Bottle. Milk chocolate and grapes in the aroma. Sweet and milky flavor. Chocolate and grapes, toffee. Granny Smiths apples in the aftertaste. Only a touch of roasted malt. Tasty, but onedimensional. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA May 11, 2007 Pours a deep ruby black with a sandy brown head that dissolves quickly. Tastes of burnt malts and some faint chocolate. hops do a good job of balancing the roasty malts with a little spiciness. very drinkable but a little thin.
