cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 21, 2006 Been waiting awhile for a great divide dark. Slight roast aroma with yeast. Not bitter hops but big initial flavor. Dark, not quite opague in my steelers mug. Roasty finish with just a light light bitter aftertaste. OK, not bad. morrdt (608), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Oct 20, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown color with small fluffy head. Aroma is a mix of chocolate and coffee. Taste is chocolately, light coffee and some bitterness. Nice robust finish. This is a very good porter, worth buying a 6 pack. jlruthven (134), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA Oct 20, 2006 Poured from the bottle into an English pint. Aroma is bitter chocolate, lots of hazelnut, some of the ever-present coffee. Poured nicely, very thing quickly-dissolving head; not much lacing to speak of. Taste reflects the smell, strong chocolate and coffee, a bit of heavy smoke, nutty finish. Overall, a pretty decent porter...I agree, its not as "robust" as advertised, but the flavor is exceptional for such a light porter. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Oct 16, 2006 Bottled. Dark brown color with small creamy head. Sweet, mellow and very pleasant flavor with notes of roasted malts, leather and nuts. The flavor is lightly sweet but dryer than the aroma. The roasted character is comlex with chocolade, leather and nuts. Minerals and roasted malt in the finish. Very pleasant with wide range of roasted aromas and flavors. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Oct 15, 2006 Molasses aroma, chocolaty and sweet. Dark brown color with dark foam. Smoky and chocolaty flavor. Creamy palate. Good overall and not too expensive. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA Oct 12, 2006 Great Divide Saint Bridget’s Porter
12 oz bottle
Bottled Spring 06, enjoyed 10/06
Medium pour in an English pint
Poured deep brown/mohogony with a huge very light brown frothy mostly lasting head. Found three black malt chunks in the head. Bonus!
Smelt of strong dark chocolate, hazelnut, and coffee roast.
Taste was upfront strong bitter sweet dark chocolate, light coffee followed by a harsh black coffee bitterness that dies down, with some nutty character kicking in on the average length finish. Mouthfeel was light, watery, lively and lightly astringent.
Overall, the aromas and taste are awesome, but this is robust? My tongue needs a better workout out of a robust porter than this. Altogether very good, more of a summer porter.
