Commercial Description:
St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat, St. Bridget's Porter. St. Bridget's is a smooth, elegant, and chocolaty brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget's is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness.

The aroma has a bit of a metallic tinge to it. Otherwise, there’s a nice blend of cocoa and smoky malts, with a bit of bitter coffee and Tootsie Rolls thrown in. Light alkaline sweetness to the nose. Dark brown black clear body, with pillowy light tan creamy lacing head. Medium bodied, with pretty heavy carbonation along with a carbonic tang and some throat tingling. Starts with chocolate or alkaline cocoa powder, mild tangy bitter coffee grounds, and a bit of smokiness. Any caramel sweetness present drops off quickly as a dry tonic effect, probably from the excess carbonation, comes in with bittering hops on its heels. Light metallic notes in the finish along with the bitterness and nutty dryness. After is dry, with bitter cocoa and hazelnut. Not a bad porter, but not overly remarkable.

Aromas of sweet malts and hints of chocolate. Black body with a small tan disipating head. Flavor was of mild sweet malts. Smooth on the palate with some roasty malt aftertaste. Decent beer

Sweet roasted malt nose - nice. Soft chocolately malt front, some tobacco, light coffee bitter end. Medium body, crisp texture. Fine, fine porter overall. Good example of the style.

Dark brown coloured body almost completely opaque with a large dense tan head...very nice! Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, raisins, light coffee and a tiny bit of milk chocolate (~40% cacao). Medium-bodied; Strong nuttiness up front following with malt and a strong coffee presence. Aftertaste shows some bitter malt and a strong nuttiness lingering. Overall, I saw this more of a ’nut’ brown ale rather than a porter, but to all their own. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on Thanksgiving Thursday 25-November-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and tupalev - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Ruddy brown colour with a tiny head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, wood smoke, burnt coffee beans - very nice. Body and flavour are full and robust while still retaining the characteristics of a true porter. Really great bitter coffee notes, and a lingering finish. A fine beverage indeed.

12 oz bottle pours black witha nice creamy tan head that settles back to about an 8th of an inch and laces very well. Aroma of roasted malts, some nut, chocolate, coffee. Flavor is very chocolatey.. Milk chocolate, roasted malts, a bit of nut, some caramel quite tasty. A nice bitter coffee finish makes this very tasty. This beer is quite full bodied for a porter. Very creamy and mouth coating and overall a very nice porter. I like this one and I’m glad I bought a six pack for tonight...

12 oz bottle, via Styles. Pours a clear dark brown colored body under a fizzy quickly fading beige head. Aroma is primarily caramel with some chocolate and lightly roasted malts. A little huskiness as well. Flavor is very dry with moderate hoppiness over chocolate and roasted malts. The flavor thins quite a bit on the finish. Mouthfeel is thin with a watery texture and alot of fizzy carbonation that really foams in the mouth. Overall, this was pretty thin with a pretty bad super fizzy mouthfeel. Not recommended to seek out.

12oz bottle. Pours a black center with medium brown edges; tan head with decent retention and lacing. Sweet, nougat-like aroma: wet and roasted malts, hints of vanilla and spice. Light-to-medium mouthfeel: roasted malts, hints of chocolate and coffee. Finish is well-balanced, with coffee and citrus hops. Not quite "robust".
