Nice roastiness and malt sweetness...a coffee and chocolate toffee aftertaste. A little cloying on the tongue...not particularly refreshing or warming. Average to average+. Not bad. Great, um, "robust" appearance. A little lighter smell, not too many roasties in evidence. However, the taste is nice and mellow. A smooth porter drink with a nice clean finish. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 4, 2004 This porter poured a dark brown with hints of orange shining through the edge of the glass. Nice Aroma. The nose is full of chocolate, lots of chocolate. Roasted Coffee as well as some less assertive hops. My guess would be Northern Brewer.
The first flavor that hit me was alcohol which was very bizarre. Chocolate was apparent in the mid-palate. Small flavors of expresso but not as apparent as I usual like my Porters to have. Some caramel and toffee but mostly just chocolate. The chocolate was too dominant. Poor finish as well. The flavor doesn’t "linger" along. More like a medium bodied Porter. Certainly should not be classified as robust. LinusStick (1855), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Smokey and roasty all the way. The pour was a dark brown with a light brown head. The aroma was a little weak but the taste made up for it. All roasted malt with a bitter dry aftertaste that stays with you. It’s been some time since I’ve had a porter this smokey. Nice. thegreenrooster (1852), St.louis, Missouri, USA

Flavor is like a chocolate bar in your mouth. Very sweet and chewy. A nice try with this style. lithy (1850), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Light body, a roasted malt taste with a finish of chocolate and coffee bitterness. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 24, 2003 Pours very dark brown, almost black, almost opaque, no head. Roast malts, some chocolate and coffee, a hint of plums. Flavor starts with some chocolate, finishes up with the coffee. Well bodied, though there is a sharp, almost metallic pang. Not to shabby of a porter.
