Commercial Description:
St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat, St. Bridget's Porter. St. Bridget's is a smooth, elegant, and chocolaty brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget's is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness.

Pours a dark. opaque brownish black with amber highlights and a quickly fading half-inch tan head. Sweet, smokey aroma of roasted malt. Flavor is rich and robust: lightly bittersweet malt with hints of coffee, smoke, and pecan shells. A nice, well-rounded porter.

Bottle @ American Week, Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Mocca, chocolate, a bit weak aroma. Dark-dark brown, small white head. Taste bitter, but could be more balanced and roasted. Loong bitter finish though.

Black pour with no head. Burnt coffe aroma and some roasted malts. The medium palate lies underneath bitter and almost burnt coffee flavors. Very one dimensional effort from Great Divide.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Siciliano’s (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a fairly transparent dark brown with some dark blood red notes, a big tannish head that eventually settles to a decent layer, laces a bit. Aromas are a bit floral and fruity at first, moving into a roasted malt and dark chocolate feel, however the darker fruits and floral hops definitely are present. Roasty barley, subtle coffee, and light cocoa. Initial is lighter bodied, a bit bitter and floral and very tobacco-like in my opinion. Good hopping for the style, a bit fruity, tobacco takes over the roast, a touch of chocolate, as tobacco and roasted coffee stay on the palate along with the hopping. Almost a menthol like feel to this beer, which is quite odd, but not necessarily bad. Roast and hops, a palatable beer, just different. Chocolate only starts to come out far into the back, still surrounded by hops, menthol tobacco, and light ashy smoke. I thought this was ok overall.

(Bottled week 2, Nov. (’07 presumably) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Bitter and chocolatey...Pours very dark brown with rubyish highlights. Four fingers of tan head that settle to about 1/4" of a lasting cap. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth, a touch thin but still lightly milk-shakey. Lots of broken rings of lacing. Flavor is mostly dark bitter chocolate with a touch of slightly over-cooked coffee. Fairly bitter overall. Touch of grassiness in finish. Decent.

A nicely spiced chocolate aroma with mainly grassy hints. Fairly roasted bitterness with a chocolate smoothness. A fairly dry and long lasting finish.

Feb. 2006 - Yeah, my numbers are all over the place. Smelled awful (like burnt coffee), looked beautiful). Flavor is bitter, smoky, roasted coffee...but remarkably smooth mouthfeel. I don’t even know if I liked this...it’s just too darned burnt tasting. DFH Chicory Stout has that smokey taste, but without tasting (or smelling) like someone ran the beer through ash beforehand.

Bottle. Black with small head. Roasted amlts, vegies, wood, minerals/metallic, short finish. Pleasent but nothing special in my book. Went well with Tiramisu. Thanks Jeppe and Jens.
