Commercial Description:
St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat, St. Bridget's Porter. St. Bridget's is a smooth, elegant, and chocolaty brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget's is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness.

Bottle. Dark brown body, large rich light tan head, bready nose with some espresso notes. Astringent, perhaps from the carbonation, dark breads, a hint of chocolate and coffee, dry, minimal finish, somewhat thin.

Bottled January 2004: Found this in the back of the cellar, must have slipped my mind for the past three years - whoops. I am pleasantly surprised to find very little oxidation here. Pours a shadowy ruby with a great foamy tawny colored head. Lots of dirty, earthy malts in the nose - rough coffee and bitter chocolates. Strangely enticing. Silky, creamy mouthfeel. The malts are more rounded in the body, displaying a much sweeter profile. Fudgey chocolate and vanilla are most noted. Ends creamy and full - robust in a word. Good stuff even three years later.

Surprised this rates so low. Pours a drak brown, ruby color with a soapy, tan head. Aroma of malts, chocolate, and coffee. Complex taste matching the aroma with some hops at the back end. Not the best, but very enjoyable.

general porter appearance with thick white head; decent palate (a little thicker than a typical porter); sour roasted notes in the aroma...flavor was a vanilla cream with hints of chocolate and coffee....slightly toasted flavor

Flaske: Brunlig øl med et fint lille skumhoved. Duften er sødlig brændt. Smagen er klassisk porter med en smule bitterhed i enden. Fin øl men ikke mere.

This is a rather unfortunate choice this evening. When it first was poured, there was a slightly sour, unpleasant aroma that hit my nose. Later, and deeper, I got some burnt caramel more associate with the style. A thin and watery pour resembles a syrupy coke with a head that vanishes quickly. A disappointing prune flavor somehwat dominates, and mixes with baker’s chocolate and roasted caramels. Some slightly earthy hops are there as well. Along with metallic cantalope. Finishes sour. Their beers are hit and miss andthis is one of those misses.

Very dark and mysterious in the glass. Aromas of roasted, dark chocolate, coffee. Tastes are much the same, with an added cherry malted element that plays well with the detectible hop presence in the brew. Nice finish. A bit chalky/astringent. Barrel-aging would be a nice touch for this one...

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark brown with ring head and lace. Sweet chocolate aroma. Sweet mild chocolate flavor. Hops seem to have faded away due to lack of freshness. Just checked date code. Best before June/July 2004. Nice. Well, extra points for having a date. Wish I had looked before I bought. Are the distributors supposed to get this stuff off the shelves?
