| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Very dark brown with a red hue. Frothy, big beige head. The aroma is roast, I sense more caramel than the coffee and chocolate the brewery describes though. Perhaps a little wood, a little licorice. Also some American hops poking through the darkness. Flavour is dry, quite hoppy and the roastiness is indeed more like ash than the classic charcoal. Nice and lasting roast and slightly smoked aftertaste. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2004 Pours deep brown/mahogany with a medium, off-white head. Aroma of malt, fruit, nuts, cabernet, chocolate, and soy sauce. Tastes malty, with some chocolate, cabernet, nuts, and coffee at the finish. This one has a slightly tart/krieky finish that reminded me ever so slightly of Bell’s cherry stout. Good complexity, balance, and mouthfeel for this one. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 13, 2002 Updated: Oct 21, 2008Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate), lightly hoppy (flowers, grapefruit), with light notes of tobacco and minerals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. A pleasant, straightforward American-style porter. The tartness is just slightly strong (only thing keeping it from an 8 flavor score), but overall it’s a solid brew. HenrikSoegaard (4439), Randers, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 21, 2004 12 oz bottle. Deep purple-black, clear but vary dark. Thick caramel-latte head, lasting. Bitter and sweet chocolates in the nose, hints of caramel and old pine boards. Rich chocolate front on the tongue, turning moderately bitter, espresso-inflected late..not as much body as it could have, but full and rich enough to be a good drinkable porter.
