Commercial Description:
St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat, St. Bridget's Porter. St. Bridget's is a smooth, elegant, and chocolaty brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget's is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness.

Strong toasted malt aroma with backing of coffee and chocolate. Dark brown color. Beige head that left rapidly. Starts with chocolate, but the tongue is quickly overwhelmed with harsh coffee. And the chocolate quickly comes back. Dry. I think there’s hop, but the coffee is strong enough to render that issue confusing. H... of a porter.

New label 12 oz. bottle. Pours very dark but with a littel ruby red showing through with light. The head was thin and tan. Aroma of pancakes and caramel. Just a hint of the roasted malts. The taste is toast and some prunes. Also a finish of walnuts. Plenty of sharp carbonation. A fairly thin and watery porter.

Light chocolatey aroma is joined by pleasant balanced roastiness. Medium brown body with ruby highlights is topped by a low white head that recedes to ring. Mild, sweet chocolate flavour blends with leafy, orange, herbal hops and subdued roasted malt bitterness to provide a quaffable if simple porter. Medium light body with moderate carbonation and a slightly chalky mouthfeel. Bottle enjoyed at the brewery during the GABF 2005 Ratebeer session.

Dark brown with reddish highlights that produces a creamy off-white head and excellent lace. The aroma hints of burnt caramel malts, mocha, coffee, aromatic hops, grapefruit and apple. The taste starts surprising hoppy and bitter with a nice grapefruity twang added in. The roasted flavors are more centered in this beer, lots of mocha, smoky and coffee notes. The finish displays a bitter character. This thin to medium-bodied brew had a dry and lively mouthfeel. A good porter was an fruity and hoppy twist. Enjoyable. Thanks Tannertavern for the brew.

Bottle. High creamy and long lasting light brown head. Clear and very dark ruby body. Coffee aroma but unfortunately with soap notes, faint but its there. Very mild and surprisingly mild coffee flavor without the feared soap but instead it has something metallic that I don’t quite fancy. Low carbonation, short aftertaste. To me this is a disappointment compared to the other beers I have had from Great Divide.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours an almost opaque dark brown brew with some red highlights and a thin light brown head. ARoma of dark roasted malt, some flowery hops on top of some chocolate and coffee scents. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of dark roasted malt, some chocolate and even a little smoked wood. Finish is semi-bitter with a dark roasted malt and chocolate aftertaste. Nice texture to this brew.

Bottle. Poured a clear deep ruby with just a little caramelly head. Surprisingly, the first things to hit the nose were citrus hops. They were nicely complemented by deep roasted coffee and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a lot of chocolate and citrus hops in the flavor. Slightly oily yet creamy and smooth on the palate. Baker’s chocolate finish provided by the chocolate malt and the nice hop presence. Very tasty brew.
