Commercial Description:
Great Divide's mantra is that real fruit makes real beer, so Great Divide ferments Wild Raspberry Ale with hundreds of pounds of real red and black raspberries. Wild Raspberry Ale is a truly effervescent, ruby red ale that achieves the almost impossible balance between malted barley and tart raspberry fruitiness. Its naturally tart character makes Wild Raspberry the ultimate accompaniment to spicy Mexican food or on its own as a stand-alone session beer.

Great Divide’s Wild Raspberry Ale (bottle) smelled good, looked pretty, but the taste...not so good. It was a nice deep red-brown with a substantial tan-white head and smelled strongly of raspberry (of course). The taste was only a little sweeter and a little more tart than a regular ol’ beer, and it seemed overly bitter. Wild Raspberry wasn’t necessarily terrible, but, if I’m in the mood for raspberry, I’ll obviously go for a lambic.

10/24/07 From the bottle. Aroma is like a fruity cola, kind of syrupy, with the obvious raspberry note. Appearance is reddish amber with a low off-white head. Flavor is an even fruit/malt balance with low bittering and no hop flora. Mouthfeel is spritzy, medium bodied, with a low creamy texture. Overall, not bad, but too rich to have more than one for a real beer drinker.

Pours reddish brown with a loose, frothy, pinkish-beige head that diminishes leaving wispy lace. Nice, natural raspberry aroma with a light malt backing. The mouthfeel is light to medium-bodied with aggressive carbonation and an abrasively dry finish. Solid raspberry front with a dry malt backing and a crisp finish. A decent fruit that would probably pair well with spicy food or chocolate, but by itself its a bit too dry, in the finish, for my tastes.

Ruby red to brownish in color. Effervescent, great carbonation. Taste is mainly fresh raspberries with a touch of light sweet caramel in the finish.

Had this beer on 11/12/1998. Color is a deep red with good carbonation and light head. Aroma is sweet and fruity. Taste is tart and light. It starts with a medium/light body that goes down smooth. The finish is a light tart fruit taste with back tones of malt. The flavor is more a general fruit taste rather than a raspberry. Very good fruit flavored brew.

12 oz bottle. Reddish brown with a beige head. Sweet raspberry puree nose, not artificial smelling - nice. Mild caramel notes. Sweet raspberry flavors, mildly tart toward the end. Decent sweet malty tone, just slightly weaker than the berries. A good fruit beer - maybe a bit underrated.
