Commercial Description:
Great Divide's mantra is that real fruit makes real beer, so Great Divide ferments Wild Raspberry Ale with hundreds of pounds of real red and black raspberries. Wild Raspberry Ale is a truly effervescent, ruby red ale that achieves the almost impossible balance between malted barley and tart raspberry fruitiness. Its naturally tart character makes Wild Raspberry the ultimate accompaniment to spicy Mexican food or on its own as a stand-alone session beer.

I think this is under rated for a fruit beer. Pretty ruby color. Aroma of raspberries as expected. Hint of raspberries, malt and hops in taste. Not overpowering in the least.

Garnet amber with decent, creamy head / Sweet nose of raspberries and malt / Medium, creamy hop body with good balance and hop finish / Brilliant, sweet flavors of raspberries with undertones of caramel / Hoppy body gives this something special.

Pours cloudy rose with a small off-white head that quickly diminishes. Nose is faint floral character with almost no raspberry. Flavor of raspberries and spicy yeast with a faint sweet malt backbone. Inoffensive raspberry finish. Watery, chalky mouthfeel. DO NOT WANT.

Doesn’t smell all that good for a rapsberry beer. Flavor is very strong of raspberries, but almost too much. Too sweet to want to drink a lot, it gets kind of gross as it goes along.

Not bad for a style I’m not particularly fond of. A nice amber-garnet hue with a thin white head which really had no retention. Aroma was of mild raspberry and wheat notes. Flavor was a mix of tart raspberries and yeast notes, some hops in the finish. Raspberry flavor was never overpowering and always seemed to be in the background of this beer.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 9-5-07. Berry, but not necessarily obviously specifically raspberry, smell. Actually more of a berry muffin smell than simply berry. Aroma is sweet and a little tart with a hint of citrusy hops. Pours a clear burgundy with a gold hue and a large amount of pink-tinted beige head. Produces sporadic lacing. Cool, unique look. Sweet, raspberry syrup flavor. Fruit is unmistakable but not overwhelming. Very pleasant berry muffin taste as it hits the tongue. Bitter, hoppy finish and aftertaste. Light to medium body. Slightly under-carbonated. Oily in the palate. Tastes like a low-alcohol, light-bodied, sweet barley wine. Essentially, this is a cohesive American pale ale with raspberry syrup. It was better than I expected, and, frankly, better than a 3.1 rating may normally imply.

Dark, ruby red with a white head which doesn’t linger long. Aroma is of rasperries which is to be expected. Taste is crisp and tart with some malt backing it up. Raspberry is definitely present throughout, but its not overpowering. Overall decent, but I probably wouldn’t seek it out.

This was a nice example of a fruit beer...I could drink quite a few of these in the summer.
