Commercial Description:
Great Divide's mantra is that real fruit makes real beer, so Great Divide ferments Wild Raspberry Ale with hundreds of pounds of real red and black raspberries. Wild Raspberry Ale is a truly effervescent, ruby red ale that achieves the almost impossible balance between malted barley and tart raspberry fruitiness. Its naturally tart character makes Wild Raspberry the ultimate accompaniment to spicy Mexican food or on its own as a stand-alone session beer.

From bottle

I drank straight from the bottle, there was so much carbonation in the beer, that it overflowed 3 times. Aroma was malty and fruity as expected. Flavor again was of raspberries, and malts. The raspberries came to full front as the beer warmed. Easy drinking, not bitter at all, which I didn’t expect. No complexity to the beer, it’s pretty much what you see is what you get. This was nice to drink, and def. different.

Copper in color with a reddish hue and small pinkish head. Tart fruity(berry) like aroma. Flavor is fruity, thin body with a dry finish. Dry champagne-like fruit beer.

Attractive ruby color, although a less than impressive fizzy fading head tinged pink. Weak aroma, but hints at a nice true raspberry character. Somewhat bland though. A clean, vaguely sweet leaning beer with just a hint of raspberry flavor. Empty semi-dry finish. At best, its a drinkable fruit beer, not cloying. At worst, its a boring sissy beer.

Brewtopia 11-12-05. This poured A pink color with a fizzy head. Nose was berries, as was taste. Not the best fruit brew I had, but enjoyable.

Bottled 05/04 (rather old one). Poured a clear sparkly lighter red with just a little white head retention. Aroma of very tart raspberries and artificial sweetener. Flavors were quite similar, with a little caramel coming through as well. Light-bodied, smooth across the tongue, and a bit tart on the roof and around the edges of the mouth. Crisp, sweet berry finish. Not bad, but probably not one that I’d pick up again.

Bottle: Aroma of raspberry and caramel with a hint of flowery bitterness. Pours a transparent red with a white head that diminishes quickly. Caramel up front with only light raspberry. Finishes with a light flowery bitterness.

Pours dark reddish amber with film for head. Aroma and flavor have a decent berry character to them, but seems more like extract than real berries. Highly carbonated. Just another average fruit beer.

12oz Bottle: Snuck a few tastes from my old lady’s mug of this brew. Not all that bad really. Pours a deep purple color, not the typical pink or pale purple that these beers typically have. Head forms very quickly, almost too fast really. It actually kind of exploded out of the mug I poured it into. Smells really strong of Raspberries, sort of like a Yankee Candle or something. Goes down really smooth, with a really rich berry taste. Not a sickly tangy taste, or overly sweet, but just right. Taste of berries really lingers on your tongue, so much so that I had to eat something to get the taste out of my mouth. Overall, not that bad. Certainly better than Abita Purple Haze. I’d probably give this one a whirl again sometime.
