Commercial Description:
Great Divide's mantra is that real fruit makes real beer, so Great Divide ferments Wild Raspberry Ale with hundreds of pounds of real red and black raspberries. Wild Raspberry Ale is a truly effervescent, ruby red ale that achieves the almost impossible balance between malted barley and tart raspberry fruitiness. Its naturally tart character makes Wild Raspberry the ultimate accompaniment to spicy Mexican food or on its own as a stand-alone session beer.

Dark red-brown pour with a loose white head and spotty lacing. Aroma is pure raspberry syrup, sweet. The taste is mostly raspberries, nice and seedy, but has a hidden but noticeable malt backbone, caramel, that keeps it from being one note.

4-5 ounce pour on-tap at the great Divide brewery. Looks good, amber witha white head. Smells "beery" and that is all I can really say about the aroma. the flavor does have raspberry hints but not what you would get from say an authentic framboise. This seemed like an amber ale with raspberry syrup added to it. The alcohol was noticeable which was strange for a 5.6% brew. This was not bad but there was also nothing really good about this beer other than the appearance. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 06-23-2009 02:08:41

On tap at Great Divide Tap Room in Denver. Tasting glass sample. Ruby red liquid with a bright white head that lasts for about an eighth of a second. Smelled of raspberries but tasted more like grapefruit! Sweet and tart finish, par for the course for a fruit beer.

12 oz. bottle (2009) in a tulip; bubbly red w/ a lavish head- a tad too much as a matter of fact. Those raters who found a small head must have had an incorrectly poured brew- this one consistently pours a Duvel-esque warlock; aroma is sweet, dominated by fresh raspberries; flavor is reedy w/ wild raspberries, quite unlike most raspberry brews. Carbonation was overdone, compromising the taste; dry and thin. Curious.

Brewed On: Apr 09 09. Just when I was beginning to wonder if Great Divide had abandoned this beer, I see it in a mix-pack at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. I had my roommate buy it and give me a bottle. Appearance: Pours a clear, reasonably dark reddish body with a frothy, ivory-hued head. Smell: Delicately tart black raspberries and fruity, sweetish raspberries. Taste: Thankfully, it’s fruity and sweet without obtaining a ghastly level of diabetes-inducing sweetness. Touch of tartness. Reasonably honest taste of black and red raspberries with maybe a few added thorns too. Touch of underlying barley graininess. Earthy bitterness helps to scrub away any extra sweetness. Dry, tart finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Provides some easy-drinking, some fruit, and, sure enough, some beer for a fine Friday evening.

A lot of head on this one. Wow! Has a slight pink color. As for the beer itself, it has a deep reddish brown cloudy color. Smells of malts and raspberries. Not too much raspberry in the flavor, more of malts and wheat. Has a little bit of a bite in the end. I’m not too much of a fan of this one. I’ll stick with Harpoon for a raspberry beer.

Pretty nice actually, especially when extremely warm outside. A few friends I know drink this and Pyramid’s Apriot Ale exclusively during the summer months. Goes down very easy by the pool.

The beer pours out a stunning purplish/magent hue, light haze and a nice fluffy off-white head. A huge raspberry overload in the aroma. Reminds me of a Jolly Rancher in some ways. Pretty one dimensional in the aroma, but I’m pretty sure that’s what they wanted when they brewed it. Pretty hard to distinguish anything else in the aroma other than raspberries. Flavor is more raspberries, light sweetness which combines really well with the fruit flavor. Couldn’t drink more than 2-3 of these as the flavor would get a little tiresome. But still, pretty nice.

The first of six raspberry beers that I’m tasting. Pretty good overall with this one. Let me state my bias that I think BerryWeiss from Leinie’s is an example of overly sweet stuff. I like some flavor, but not all sweet. Nice red tinged, brown ale sort of color. Very flat beer but good flavor if not crazy wild flavor.
