randolphjj (89), Raymore, Missouri, USA Jul 14, 2009 DARK with a brown, thick head. Dark chocolate & coffee taste with lots of roasted malt. Almost a dark coffee bean roast, like Italian Robusto blend. Heavy, viscous but packed with great flavor. kosmoken (21), USA Jul 12, 2009 One of my favorite Imperial Stouts. Great smell of chocolate, toffee, and plenty of hops. Pours very dark, with a frothy brown head. Very flavorful taste of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Excellent stuff! andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden Jul 12, 2009 Extremely black with one of the most brown looking heads on any imperial stout. Aroma is fantastic rich toffe, caramell, dark chocolate and offcourse a whole bunch of american hops. Flavour is the same with a heavy roasted, warming and extremely bitter finish. Very agressive, very tasty. Mellows nicely with age giving way for a perfect dark chocolate taste. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 12, 2009 Finally getting around to trying the regular version. Pours black, with a thick tan head. Nice and viscous. This one’s just classic. Bittersweet chocolate and molasses on the nose, with just a touch of coffee. Flavor is right on, with a bit more roast and quite a bit of hops for an impy stout, which leaves a pretty dry finish. This is just great stuff. I’m still a much bigger fan of the oak-aged versions, but they’ve got this recipe down. evergreen0199 (259), London, Greater London, England Jul 11, 2009 Cask at American beer fest White Horse, London. Black stout with a small tan head on top. Coffee/chocolate aroma. Smooth, coffee, chocolate, fruity, caramel, roasty notes. Very nice indeed. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Jul 8, 2009 Bottle. Pretty much black with a dark brown head. Massive awesome chocolateness with obvious coffee and roasted malts. Smooth palate, like velvet. Truly a pleasure to drink. Some drinks seem to get you really drunk, this does that job well. And I don’t just mean the ABV, some 9.5’s can feel stronger than another 9.5. Very very good. Love a good Impy Stout, this is one. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Jul 6, 2009 Bottle pours black with a thin beige head. Aroma is roasted maltiness, coffee, alcohol, and hops. Flavor is very smooth, roasty malts, hops, coffee, bitter hops, and a dry finish. DJMonarch (6036), Northwich, Cheshire, England Jul 6, 2009 On Tap at the Great Divide Brewing Company, Denver 12/10/2007
Fruity and roast aromas. Small tan head. Black smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a crisp and bitter full coffee roast finish.
