Pours a light-absorbing pitch black with one of the darkest brown heads Ive ever seen, lots of lacing and retention. Aroma is the standard coffe and chocolate with a dark fruity sweetness and some earth. Dark fruit stands out more as it warms. Flavor is roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, with a smooth bitterness throughout and a somewhat dry finish. Perfectly silky and full bodied with creamy carbonation. This one was the winner of the night. soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA

Pours a jet black with a chocolate brown small head that disappates quickly. Smells of lots of chocolate, a bit of coffee, some malt, and a little toffee. Tastes of chocolate, caramel malt, some toffee, and no coffee (a little disappointing). Also a hint of black licorice (which I do not like). Very smooth going down, and leaves a roasty chocolate feeling in your mouth. A great stout, though if you think this is good, try the oak aged, which is greatly better. thefrutigers (100), , Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 21, 2009 bottle 12oz: Poured deep black with a small dark brown head. Smell of roasty toasty malt and licorice and slight spice and some smoke. Taste was roasted malts slightly sweet with a nice bitter touch and a slighty smoky flavor. Thick mouth feel. Overall I liked this better than the Oaked version (apparently oaked beer ain’t my thing). Great brew. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 17, 2009 22oz bomber poured into a snifter. Pour is opaque black, and very thick. There’s a small brown head of thick, large bubbles and it dissipates quite quickly. Aroma is as thick as the beer - dark roasted malts with chocolatey notes with a touch of resinous hops. Take a drink and it’s just as thick as you’d expect it to be with tastes of roasted malts and coffee that finishes with a nice hop bitterness. Pretty well balanced with the caramelized sweetness of the malts offset by the hops. Very good beer keepersj12 (786), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 12, 2009 Dark brown almost black out of the bottle. Beautiful aroma of dried fruit malt with a bit of earthiness. Flavor was nicely sweet chocolate, malts. Dry hop finish. Alcohol is well hidden. One of the best. gpekar (223), Maryland, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 10, 2009 Poured a thick black color with a tall, creamy, foamy brown head that left a good deal of lacing. The aroma was like a glass of chocolate milk, but not too strong. The aroma was the only less than stellar thing aboutt his beer. There was a strong flavor throughout the glass. Initially there was a lightly sweet chocolate flavor that rolled into a strong espresso flavor with a hint of alcohol coming through the flavor. The finish had a somewhat bitter bite from the hops and the strong flavor. The finish lasted a good long time. Excellent beer!!!!!!! SaintMatty (1213), Tallinn, Estonia
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 10, 2009 Draught (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) - Black in colour. The aroma has hops, chocolate and some coffee notes. Roasted and hoppy taste with coffee and chocolate featuring again. Nice to drink, but I think the hops are a bit excessive for a beer of this type. I would prefer more roasted notes. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 7, 2009 Silky oil! This is yet another fine example of an Imperial Stout. I just love the malt intensity and smooth delivery of such a high alcohol content. A sipper for sure, but just becuse you want to savor the flavor.
