dkingsella (85), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 22, 2009 Pours black with a frothy mocha head. Cocoa and coffee in the nose. Full bodied with flavors of chocolate and burnt espresso bean. More hops than you would expect from the style, but very good. fishonmyplane (124), Newington, Connecticut, USA Feb 17, 2009 For me this is a near-perfect imperial stout. 9.5% ABV and full of roasted, burnt, malty flavor. But it’s all well-balanced with a healthy dose of hops, resulting in 75 IBU’s. Truly an incredible beer. gauguin007 (11), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 16, 2009 Local specialty store in Seattle. One year in bottle. Room temp. in snifter. Opens with a poof and scent of pine hops. Deep dark chocolate color with gorgeous antique parchment colored foam. Ultra smooth texture and flavor of tobacco/dark roast coffee followed by resiny hops. Very rich yet smooth and balanced. Long aged-cigar/coffee/dark chocolate/pine tar finish. Everything one could want. Sublime brew. Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 15, 2009 Fan-frickin tastic stout. I was worried reading that this was a hop forward drink. I don’t know of the date on the bottle, but this is nowhere near as hoppy as Old Rasputin, and I found it to be quite enjoyable, fantastic even. Can’t wait to dive into the Oaked one I have in my cellar. webbcreative (111), , Oklahoma, USA Feb 7, 2009 Exactly as in the description. Old Rasputin is better. But a solid brew nonetheless. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 2, 2009 A very solid (but not standout) imperial stout, which is quickly becoming my favorite style of brewski. Roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate on the aroma. Has most of your standard American RIS flavors: coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt. Also adds vanilla, bourbon, and more hop bitterness than usual. Nice full and smooth palate. A very good beer, but doesn’t quite stand up to something like AleSmith Speedway Stout. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 30, 2009 Black as coal in color with a thick tan head… beautiful. Aromas are of rich espresso, hops, and dark fruits. Flavor is a of espresso and chocolate. Nice thick body with raisons and a great taste.
RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Jan 30, 2009 Pours like any perfect Imperial Stout. It is pitch black, thick, with a dark mahogany head. Aroma is pure coffee and nothing else. Flavor is huge, with a coffee and dark chocolate body, finished with a bitter sweet burnt/toasted malt. This and the oak aged Yeti are amongst the tops in their class.
