Jun 27, 2008 I tried this during a RIS sampling evening at my house. My overall impression was that this was terribly over-hopped to the point that it tasted more like an IPA than an impy stout. Reminiscent of Stone’s 11th Anniversary Ale. And compared to the other RIS’s we tasted, this was my least favorite.
A: very dark, decent head and lacing
S: quite hoppy, some roasted and smoky overtones
t: much too hoppy for my tastes. while I expect there to be some roasted and hop bitterness, this was just not balanced well enough for my tastes.
M: Thick, but too much lingering hop bitterness
D: With so many other RIS choices, I wouldn’t spend the $$ on this again.

Jun 23, 2008 Bottle. Pitch black, brown head. Fruity aroma, plums, coffee, chocolate. Lots of fruit and bitterness in the taste, along with roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. This is heavy stuff.

Jun 22, 2008 Black with a brown head. Hefty aroma of coffee, black chocolate, burnt caramel, alcohol and roasted malts. The flavour is equally challenging with a thick body and a sweet and wam milddle, ending in a bitter finish. It’s a yeti allright, but not as well tempered as it’s bigger brother on the oak.

Jun 21, 2008 Bottle. Poured pitch black with a small/medium dark brown head. Aroma is caramel, roasted malts and coffee. Taste was roasty, licorice, chocolate and a tiny bit of alcohol. The mouthfeel is also tremendous, very full bodied. Great stuff.

Jun 18, 2008 12oz bottle. pour is pitch black with a brown head and quite a bit of lacing. smell of pine, toasty, nuts and slight chocolate and coffee. smooth bodied - creamy and very drinkable - hides the alcohol extremely well. flavors of fresh brewed coffee and malt with a nice hoppy bitterness on the finish. would like to do a side by side with the oak aged yet. fantastic brew.

Jun 18, 2008 excellent beer. Dark, roasted flavor. Has that ’grainy’ mouthfeel and high abv content that I covet. Very hoppy for a stout but delicous none the less.

Jun 17, 2008 Well, my first beer officially rated on Ratebeer, thanks to my friend haslinger. I was a bit afraid throwing down just top numbers on my first beer, but this beer just exceeds all expectations. A very smooth, but heavy flavor loaded with hops and chocolate. Absolutely one of the best beers I’ve ever had.
(oh and light cannot pass through it)
