oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Apr 21, 2008 Pours like used motor oils with copious brown head- perhaps one of the darker heads I’ve had the pleasure of laying eyes upon. Head it tight and frothy, eminating roasty notes of bitter chocolate, coffee, citrus hops, and burnt malt. Lacing quite prevalent. Flavor was a robust malt backbone with a hint of hop and alcohol bite in the proper proportions. Coffee, chocolate malt and dry hoppy finish. Mouthfeel is incredible. Chewy, fufilling, rich and incredibly smooth. Aging would treat this one well. Great flavors and balance culminate to create quite the outstanding brew. jrmac (210), USA Apr 20, 2008 Pours the traditional black with thick brown head. Smells like coffee, malt, chocolate, and alcohol. Great flavor of espresso, roast malt, and chocolate. A great deal for a four pack. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 20, 2008 Big milk chocolate coffee aroma wafting out. Semi-sweet choco-coffee attack, burnt roasty flavor. Quite creamy. IvoR (30), New Jersey, USA Apr 19, 2008 Bottle. Pours like black coffee with small brown head that seems to last for quite a while. Aroma is of chocolate and of bitter hops. Flavor starts out rich from the very beginning and stays rich. It is a pleasant mixture of hops, coffee, and chocolate that changes nuance with time. Finish is of hops and very long lasting. Overall, a very drinkable and full bodied brew. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Apr 19, 2008 Bottle. Aroma started off as alcoholic raisin (overwhelmingly) with a nice hop background, but as time went on, chocolate popped up, and as more time went on coffee popped up, as both took their appropriate spots without making much of a fuss. Flavor was much more balanced from the beginning, with (non-alcoholic) raisin, prune, maybe even cherry, chocolate, tons of roasted malt, and still a nice hop background that let the malt do the talking but played its role nicely. Also a very drinkable imperial stout I found. Great great stuff. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Apr 19, 2008 Bottle (probably was sitting around for awhile). Pours dark black with a beautiful thick light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, hops. I loved the hop profile of this beer! Flavor of hops, roasted malt. Mouthfeel was a little less rich and dense compared to the Oaked Yeti. Yum!
agillespie81 (190), Denver, Colorado, USA Apr 19, 2008 Dark black......opaque. Thick, creamy head. Malty aroma, with a hint of sweetness. Strong roasted malt flavors up front......pretty smooth mouthfeel, with only a faint crispness. Complex hop notes mixed with a bold malt flavor in the back......long, somewhat dry finish. michael-pollack (2603), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2008 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of piney hops, chocolate, soy sauce, chocolate, and roasted malts. Poured black in color with a large, dense, dark brown head that lasted throughout. Opaque. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of chocolate, piney hops, resinous hops, roasted malts, coffee and a bit of coco. Medium to full body. Chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Hoppy, bitter, chocolate, dry finish.
