Oxymoron (104), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Mar 20, 2008 From Colorado with love. Pours a deep, black thick color that is very viscous. A rich amber-brown head that remains throughout the tasting. There is chocolate quality like you could just pour this all over ice cream. There is good lacing though and through. The smell is strong with a malty backing. Great tones of rich roasted malt and chocolate tones. Very malty with a tad sweet smell. Very limited fruit or plum notes but are there if you really look for them. A little bit of phenols but nothing that would indicate the ABV. The taste is mostly malt. A deep dark chocolate with a bittersweet taste. Very rich in the flavor, very much like a high end deep chocolate bar. Stronger coffee flavors are also present. More of coffee beans then coffee taste. There is a sweetness that brings out a sort of milk stout quality. One thing that you don’t taste is the plums or raison quality. This is mostly rich malt and lactose. The flavor is very smooth with some limited bit and phenol tastes at the end. The body is medium to full. The carbonation is light as per expected but overall a good tasty brew. I think I would have liked to see more complexity and fruity or plum/raison tastes but still an exceptional beer. A definite recommendation. Taverner (827), San Ramon, California, USA Mar 18, 2008 Pours dark blackish brown with a thick brown head. Aroma consists of the roasted malts, and sweetness. On first taste, the hops and roast mix to give you a great experience on the palate. Bitter and sweet, much like a fine Dark Chocolate bar. You can taste notes of coffee, licorice, chocolate and caramel. You can’t taste the 9.5% at all - it tastes like liquid chocolate. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Mar 17, 2008 Bottle, pours with a big black glub..glub...glub into the glass announcing its full viscous intensity of an ale, some tan chocolatey bubbles spring up and swirling leaves an oily film on the glass with fine chocolate bubbles, lots of roasted, dark roasted malt and chocolate aromas, dark brown and burnt sugar sweetness, dark and burnt caramel fragrances, letting this warm up brought dark chocolate and brownie aromas, very nice! Alcohol appears pretty well hidden. Big chocolate and roasted malt flavors with nice dark caramel-molasses sweetness, a touch of coffee flavor, alcohol warmth is felt but not tasted, bitterness with dark and burnt malts that linger after the finish, has a good thick and full mouth feel with some chewiness and creamy substance on the palate, good balance of flavors for a Imperial Stout, very good! pumpmaster (474), Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2008 12 ounce bottle purchased at Case & Keg Boca Raton, FL for $3.25 Very good. DaMenace123 (250), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 14, 2008 Tap at the brewery in Denver. Thick black appearance. Sweet aroma. Flavor is roasty, coffee, but with a good bit of hop to balance it out. Impressive beer. JEB12345 (13), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours out thick and black, kind of like used motor oil. Small head. Complex malty/smokey flavor. Slight bitter after taste. Good beer. If you like this I recommend the Oak Aged Yeti. SoBloHero (56), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 12, 2008 A great poor, deep and rich flavors. Has a hint of chocolate flavor. Strong flavors and deep rich taste
