Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Feb 17, 2008 Updated: Aug 7, 2008Pit black with a nice brown chocolate lasting but a bit rough head. Clearly Great Divide’ in aroma, with tons of piney hops overwhelming a nice rich roastiness. Very rough in mouth, oily, hard to swallow. Really a dry end with more than an alcoholic note. Way too exaggerated for my likings. uhre (339), Denmark Feb 17, 2008 Updated: Sep 20, 2008There is an aroma of bread, malt, caramel and alcohol. The beer is dark and has a brown head which last for a long time. The flavor is full of bread, malt and alcohol with a smoked aftertaste. Great balance. thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Feb 17, 2008 12oz bottle: pours black as balck can be with a quich dissipating brown head. aroma if i were bind folded and smelled this beer i would say it was an IPA aroma of hops and hints of malt. flavor tells a different story the darkness comes through some chocolate some roastes flavors and not so much hop bite as the aroma was telling. its a good stout pretty complex just not strong enough to be a top rated beer in my mind. it has all the flavors of a great stout its just not enough of it. specksnreds (55), USA Feb 13, 2008 Solid IS. Dark, thick pour, little lacey head, and a little too boozy. Chocolate is the big overtone, followed by burnt toast and a not-too-bitter finish. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Feb 12, 2008 Updated: Mar 3, 2008Bottle at home ... Deep Deep black with thin brown bubbly head ... Rich chocolate malt ... Sweet rich chocolate malts ... little caramel lots or roast malts ... quite a bit of spirit... little american hop shows through but not unbalancing it ...though the hoppyness builds a bit much over time... I suspect that this is no worse than the oak aged (from memory) yet i suspect this is a more representative score. Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 12, 2008 Pours a jet black with a tan head, aroma coffee, dark chocolate, and a hint of hops. Tastes of coffee and dry hops. One of the hoppyer Impys ive had. rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 10, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep dark brownish black with 3a creamy brown soapy head. Aromas of Chocolate, Coffee and malt are all present. Roasted malt flavor and dry chocolate really stick out in the taste of this one. The Oaked version is much better, but this is also a very nice impy stout. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA Feb 8, 2008 22oz bomber, not really impressed a bit of oxidation has occurred, some roasty chocolate flavors come through overtop of anything else, lots of lots of dark chocolate.. still a tint of oxidation, not real pine so to speak... not bad, just not what i was hoping for.
