hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Feb 7, 2008 22oz bombshell. Viscous, jet black pour and some fizzy cappuccino colored head, settling lazily into a fine surface lace and some bubbles on the snifter edges. Absolutely mouthwatering aroma that tantalizes the nose with seeping molasses and dark chocolates. Lots of coffee, chicory as well, with a slight sweet vinous touch. Burnt malty & caramel flavors combine readily with the mocha coffee backbone and I get some sweet cherry and citrus attenuated characters as well. Could have used a bit more bitterness and dry finish however. Great silky mouth feel and a warming alcohol presence. Great stuff, but I’ll take the oak-aged version for sure! moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 5, 2008 Bottle. Very dark pour with a nice sized cappuccino brown head. Subtle aroma of toffee and licorice. Sweet, malty flavor with nice hop aftertaste. Smooth, thick mouthfeel. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Feb 3, 2008 Bottle bought @ Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. Pours a thick black colour with a small brown head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate and some alcohol. Great mouthfeel. The flavour is quite sweet with roasted malt and caramel, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, alcohol and bit of smoke. Long lasting sweet roasty finish. Great brew but I do prefer the oak aged version. milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Feb 3, 2008 Very roasted......chocolate and coffee...in both aroma and flavor. Subtle under-currents of dark sugar, caramel, toffee, etc. Not as bold as Oak-aged, but still a complex beer. Mutualaid (136), Texas, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours thick, syrupy and black with a molasses colored head. Aromas of brown sugar, toast, and raisins with no detectable hop bouquet. Huge flavors of roasted malt and coffee, with a hint molasses and citrus hops. Substantial alcohol warmth. Very full body with a lip-smacking quality. Long hoppy finish. 45thstbrewer (94), Conowingo, Maryland, USA Feb 1, 2008 Updated: Feb 16, 2008Yeti Imperial Stout is excellent. It is an interesting mix of roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel. It pours black with a tan head jerohen (1602), Bussum, Netherlands Feb 1, 2008 Updated: Apr 13, 2008Opaque, lasting dark brown head. Very complex nose of roasted malts, chocolate, liquorice, and even some lactic and fruity notes. Malty and bitter flavour, again lots of complexity. Thick mouthfeel and lasting bitter finish. Just a tad to bitter in finish for me, but apart from that really nice. I think i like this one just as much as the oaked aged version, but i’ll have to try that one again to be sure. Great brew from a great brewery. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Jan 29, 2008 Updated: Feb 12, 200812oz bottle, sample #23 in a blind imperial stout tasting. Pours a very dark, oily brown color; medium tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Inky, dried dark fruits and bitter chocolate in the aroma; red fruits. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: plenty of dried dark fruits, caramel, and inkiness; some toasted malts. Medium finish: roasted malts and dried fruits. Straightforward imperial stout. 8.4.7.4.14=3.7
12oz bottle. Pours a very dark, almost pitch-black color; dark brown, textured head with excellent retention and lacing crawling up the sides of the glass; a beautiful pour. Very nice resiny pine and citrus bitterness in the aroma (a huge step above Stoudt’s Fat Dog already); roasted / charred malts, bittersweet chocolate, and licorice; a generous pine-laden aroma with no show of alcohol; inky with oily hops. Full mouthfeel: roasted and charred malts, toffee, caramel, and plenty of chocolate; the hop bitterness in the mouthfeel is far less resinous and present than in the aroma; mostly a dense chocolately malt core with some mineral bitterness; tasty, satisfying, with a light show of resinous pine at mid-palate; a solid imperial stout with an excellent nose. Lengthy finish, showing oily nuttiness, roasted malts, and some bitter chocolate; dry and well-roasted end. 9.5.7.4.14=3.9
