AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jan 9, 2008 22 oz. bottle pours a pitch black fluid with a nice brown head. Awesome lacing. Earthy, woody smell with toffee and fresh hops.
Viscosity is 10w 40 weight motor oil. Taste is of toasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate with a slight sweetness of dark plums. Has a pleasantly bitter blackened malt, rich coffee taste finish followed by a nice, fresh hop tasting burp. Dec 2004 harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Jan 8, 2008 Bottle from Utobeer. I had the oak aged version 2 years ago and was probably at the time my first big US Impy Stout and I was blown away by it. So a couple of year down the road, what do I think of this one? It’s black and viscous. Thick tan head. Aroma of heavy hop, lots of oily roasted malts. Lots of hop and choc. I do really rather like it. Lots of choc. Very oily in mouth. Not too much carbonation. Lots of everything actually. So much choc. It’s lovely. Lots of hops on end. Gorgeous. Really smooth in mouth too. I guess with these big beers, you either like them or not or have a particular favourite, well this one I think is one of my favourites, not quite Speedway, but close. FlyingSwine (169), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jan 7, 2008 Updated: Jan 12, 2008Pours thick and black, with little head. Great aroma...sweet, roasted malt with some alcohol. The flavor was a bit too strong and overpowering for my tastes. It reminded me of a barley wine more than a stout. Although there was some definate bitterness, the hops weren’t as present as the description would seem to imply (which I was personally happy about). In the end it was a good, strong stout, but it won’t go in the regular rotation. bernold (1), Sweden does not count Jan 5, 2008 A very hefty stout with a nice sweet smell of apple and a somewhat ham-like smoke. The taste is quite bitter and sweet. This is certainly not a beer for rookies. travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Jan 4, 2008 Black as coal in color with a thick tan head… beautiful. Aromas are of rich espresso, hops, and dark fruits. Flavor is a of espresso and chocolate. Nice thich body with raisons and a great great taste.
grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Jan 3, 2008 Pours black with a smallish tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and hops. Palate seems a little thin. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada Jan 3, 2008 Black, black, black with a thick brown head. The nose is wonderful with blossoming chocolate bursts, the right amount of hop presence coming through, and of course a welcome roastiness. The body is full, smooth, and thick. Hints of licorice sit on the front of the tongue. Hops invade the entire drink, but are surrounded and complimented by minty notes, chocolate undertones, and roast. A wonderful imperial stout. I tasted this side by side with the Oak aged Yeti. I enjoyed this much better. Great work! pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Jan 2, 2008 Pours black with a thick tan head. Chocolate and hops in the nose. Flavor of chocolate, piney hops, coffee, malts, and toffee. Finishes thinner than expected, little carbonation. alcohol becomes apparent when it warms up, but doesn’t take away from the flavor.
