Slayer85 (582), Firenze, Italy Jan 1, 2008 Bottled. A black as coal and opaque beer, with a small and disappearing brown head. Powerful aroma of roasted malt, with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruits, dark bread and some hops. A deep, complex and pleasant nose, I would say perfect. The flavour is fantastic too, with a big amount of roasted malt and hops, a vinous feeling and coffee, chocolate and much more flavours I can’t describe. It starts sweet and finishes with a long lasting and lingering bitter aftertaste from both roasted malt and hops. Full body, soft carbonation, the alcohol is almost totally hidden. Perhaps too filling, but it’s not a big problem. A wonderful beer, luckily this is now available in Italy. I can’t wait to try the Oak Aged version. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Dec 31, 2007 (bottle) Looks oily when poured, but then a huge dark tan head blossoms. Aroma of coffee and molasses. Flavor is roast coffee, hints of dark chocolate and sweet molasses. Alcohol in the finish, especially as it warms. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 30, 2007 Picked up a single 22-oz bomber from Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy light tan head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, dark chocolate and molasses with a touch of flowery hops and some sweet alcohol. Taste is full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of bakers chocolate, molasses and some toffee. Finish is not as smooth as the oak aged Yeti but still flavorable with character of dark chocolate and a touch of dark pitted fruit. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 29, 2007 Pours opaque black with a chocolate milk head that goes nowhere. Smell is chocolate, sweet molasses, some hops and some alcohol. Taste matches the smell. Chocolate notes, sweets, some hops some warming from the alcohol though it’s not as present as the abv indicates. Full in the mouth yet not filling. Finishes a little dry. This is an amazing brew with amazing flavors all over the place. Could, and will try this again and again. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to try this one. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Dec 28, 2007 Beautiful pour, dark and almost opaque, with a nice, pock-mocked dark frothy-soap head that leaves soapy lacing that follows the cap down the pull. The nose contains roasts and toasted soy (soy sauce-esque, but not bad at all). A thick mouthfeel and a satiating palate lead flavors of heavy roasts, smoke, some dark fruit, burned toffee, bitter chocolate and some toast. A nice burnt bitter back finishes the pull. This is a very nice Impy Stout, and extremely satisfying to the palate. Very good offering here... glad I picked up a few. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Dec 24, 2007 A Mes rate: 355ml bottle from Utobeer. Superb looking beer. Espresso black with a very impressive tan head. Black cherry and Jamaican Ginger Cake aroma with a tonne of chocolate and some resinous hops. A jolly good smell. Flavour is nothing like as good. Off kilter and no balance. Bitter dark chocolate dominated and far too rich to be pleasant. Huge burn on the way down. Lingering sprucey hop aftertaste really saves the day though. All 75 IBUs are clear as hell. Unusual and, like the oak aged variant, a little over rated in my opinion. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 Black with a tan head, leaves no lacing, but the head forms a creamy swirl in the glass. Mostly toffee and caramel in the nose with a hint of coffee. Starts out toffee with coffee and piney hops bursting through in the finish; dark chocolate in there as well. Full bodied with not very much carbonation, heavy in the mouth, fits great. It was a joy drinking this, and wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again.
