Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 The head is thin with a little lacing that’s not very stuck. Color is dark black, very thick.
Smell is strong dark coffee and a little oaky.
The taste is of heavy coffee with woody flavors, a strong salt taste is apparent until it warms up.
Mouthfeel is good stuff, very smooth like silk.
I will definetly look forward to my next bottle. I’ll let it warm up further before drinking it. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Dec 23, 2007 Updated: Dec 24, 2007Body colour is black and the head pours a nice brown which lasts the distance. Hops are dominant on the nose with some underlying chocolate and in the taste, after the hops, a load of liquorice, burnt caramel and then some pine notes. Some people will really like this and some will believe it is just ok. SamGamgee (1394), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Dec 22, 2007 355ml bottle from Systembolaget. Black. Brown head with lots of lace that sticks like glue to the glass. Aroma is intensely hoppy with some chocolate underneath it. Flavor has lots of hops, grapefruit, licorice. There is some roasted malt down there, but the hops almost completely trample it. The body is thick with low carbonation, and an astringent finish. Overall just really bitter and hoppy, not really going for balance I guess. I can live with that, but it doesn’t blow me away. estoves2 (98), Sweden Dec 20, 2007 Pours a black body with a brown frothy head that i lasting.
Aroma of licorice woody tones, chocolate and grapes.
Flavor of licorice and chokolate, bitter hops.
Palate is thick and harch.
douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Dec 19, 2007 Updated: Jun 5, 2009Bottle. Pours a dark creamy and thick brew, with a nice light brown head. The aroma is hints of fruit, chocolate and a damp forest. The taste is creamy and rich; coffee, chocolate, burnt malts, some citrus and raisin, a woody and smoked taste, and some hops. Really a great drink; a bit of alcohol warming, but just a nice hint. Simply great. Re-rate: an amazing brew. Kind of like a imperial dry stout, lots of roasted flavors and rich molasses. A bitterness on the edges of your palate throughout. On of my favorites. BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Dec 16, 2007 after pouring the beer I was really excited to try it based on its perfect appearance. However, the licorice was overpowering, both in the aroma and taste. I’m not a big fan of licorice to begin with and favor stouts with mute if any licorice accents. If you are big fan of licorice, you will probably love this beer. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Dec 15, 2007 Updated: Jul 12, 2009old rating:

pour is jet black with a medium size brown head, and good lacing.
smell is of double chocolate, with a background of roasted coffee, a touch of roasted almonds, and a hint of vanilla.
taste is creamy and thick, bitter, chocolate, sour malt, some coffee, nuts, a touch of vanilla, and some licorice, end is slightly bitter and thick. EKGoldings (447), Radford, Virginia, USA Dec 15, 2007 An amazing combination of dark roast malts and hops. Cirtus piney hop aroma mixed perfectly withthe dark roast grain. Tastes even better as it warms in your glass. One of the best I’ve had. I hate to describe a beer as stylish, but this would be a good description.
