jhagmar (114), Gothenburg, Sweden Dec 5, 2007 Updated: Dec 6, 2007355 ml bottle. Large, creamy, brown, mostly lasting head. Body is an almost black brown. Caramel, fungus and coffee to the nose. The taste is initially creamy with pronounced bitterness. Long, intensely bitter aftertaste. Mildly carbonated with a medium to full body. Bluesman (9), Denver, Colorado, USA does not count Dec 2, 2007 I could smell the chocolate as I poured this - a black obsidion with a brown head. Aroma of alcohol and malts along with the chocolate. Velvety mouthfeel with a clean finish. Big roasty flavors of chocolate and coffee. This might be my overall favorite beer. mugabe (215), Sweden Dec 1, 2007 Bottle. Pitch black, thick brown head. Aroma of chocolate, soy sauce and alcohol. Huge coffee taste with chocolate, cream and caramel. The sweetness gives way to a bitter finish with a nice sting of alcohol. Very brutal and very good. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Dec 1, 2007 Heavy vapors of alcohol, chocolate-coffee liqueur. Roasted black malts, molasses, licorice and smoke. Light hops aroma, overpowered by the malts. Extremely thick and complex taste with lots of chocolate and espresso. Excellent balance between sweetness and bitterness. There is also a huge hops taste that leaves citrus and pine flavors on the palate. Strong roasted malt, coffee, caramel, toffee and cotton candy in flavour. Very complex, and nice. A superb Imp stout. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Nov 30, 2007 Wow, black brew with a light brown head Beautiful cascading show lasts a few minutes leaving behind heavy lacing pattern. Chocolate aroma, roasted notes Semi sweet, dry roasted chocolate flavor this brew is delicious and satisfying. Great warmth in the chest. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 30, 2007 Poured from the bomber a thick, oily completely opaque black with a whispy tan head that lefty a deathly looking lace on the glass. Smells as you’d imagine, chocolate, coffee, malts, etc etc etc. Flavor is the same, bitter coffee, chocolate, toffee, candy, nuts, etc. Finish is bitter, I guess from the hops, but also from the coffee flavor from the roasted malts. Finish is also oily and shows the heavy alcohol. Tasted a lot better once it got closer to room temperature. Good imperial stout, but I liked the oak aged alot more. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Nov 30, 2007 Love this beer. Dark as night. Nose of roasted malts, coffee, dark sugar and chocolate. Tastes very much the same, and add in some dark fruits to that as well. Very nice finish. Yummmm. danhitch (17), USA Nov 28, 2007 Bottle: Poured motor oil black with a thick dark tan head. Aroma was caramel and coffee. Taste was roasty, licorice, mint chocolate, and a tiny bit of alcohol. The mouth feel is also tremendous, very full bodied. There is a lot going on in this beer, really great overall.
