jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 16, 2007 Bottled. Simply a great beer - highly enjoyed this one. Aromas and flavors up front of the normal deep dark chocolate, roasted malts, and touches of dry coffee. Hiding behind are hints of dried fruits, highlighted by plum. Long lasting roasty, bitter finish. Wonderful! I’m a sucker for big stouts that can be pulled off right. Add the oak and you have one of my favorites...yum!!!! estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 16, 2007 Very dark brown body, big rocky tan head, mocha and citric hops in the nose. Palate less thick than I expected, with chocolate and coffee, bitter finish. Alcohol well hidden. mtjoseph (36), Murderapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 15, 2007 Bottle. Pours black as night. Dark brown head that stays apparent. Roasted malt, chocolate, hops, carmel combine to add a little bittiness to the mix. Very oily texture which leads a nice long finish. Looking forward to the oak aged yeti rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Nov 15, 2007 Bottle. Ok, this is truly embarrasing. I made alot of notes about the beer, only to waste them in the laundry later on. So I will give it a try without the notes.
Black color, nice big lasting brown head. Great roasted aroma with tar, chocolate, cocoa, licorice and lots of really bitter hops. Flavor is as raosted and bitter, chocolate, licorice, tar and cocoa. Lovely bitterness and a wonderful body. I promise to save my notes next time I try this beer... screwball (796), Motala, Sweden Nov 15, 2007 Bottle. Oh My!!! What a brew! Black body and a dark brown big creamy head. Head lasts the whole while. When you smell it it´s an avalanche of aroma that hits U. Wood, leather, malt, dark fruits, chocolat and caramel. I´m sure I will find more next time I drink it. When it hits the throat it feels ful and round and smooth. Coffee, tar, caramel, malt, chocolat. In the end hopas showes up. It´s bitter finish and dry. What a BOMB!! tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Nov 14, 2007 Bottle. Pitch black, oily pour yields aromas of tar, leather, molasses, milk duds, vanilla, coffee and alcohol. Flavor is quite bitter. Obviously, lots of roasted malt. Some dark, bitter chocolate, molasses, alcohol and strong, oily espresso. Full bodied, creamy with good carbonation. bigcat03 (191), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA Nov 11, 2007 07-22-07. Globe glass at 64 F. Pours B-L-A-C-K. The darkest beer I’ve seen, possibly. A 2 finger caramel head. Almost intimidating. Roast, dark chocolate, espresso, milk, malt, caramel, cream, and black coffee to the nose. The initial taste is roast, pine hops, black coffee, espresso, a tinge of alcohol, caramel, malted milk balls, and a bit of dark chocolate. Aftertaste is a bitter roasted coffee, pine hops, and malted milk balls. Palate is orgasmic. Creamy and full with light carbonation. Absolutely wonderful beer. The most balanced beer I have tasted to this point. Hops definitely add to the flavor; not distract. Could maybe do with just a smidge more caramel flavor...but that’s being extra picky. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Nov 11, 2007 Bottle: Poured that thick tar black color with a light creamy brown thick lasting head. The aroma is sweet with chocolate and rich malt. The taste iis a roasted malt with sweet chocolate. There this dry bittery hop finish that makes a lasting impression!
