bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 24, 2007 Bottle: dark black pour with a tan head, burnt toffee, coffee and malt, taste is caramel, dark chocolate, with a slight hop presence in the finish, this is a very nice imperial stout. I’ve had the Oak Aged on draft (didn’t take notes though) and don’t recall liking it as much as this. Perhaps I was already drunk and didn’t realize what I was drinking. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Oct 22, 2007 (bottle) Pours a thick inky black color with a nice dark tan head. There’s nice coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate aromas, with some piney hops as well. Taste has slight soy sauce to it, with strong roasted malt and coffee along with a nice finish of hops. Mouthfeel is very thick, this is a really nice beer. Acknud (770), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Oct 22, 2007 Great pour. Looks like a stout should...thick and black. No light shining through this baby. Small tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Taste is the same with some hops crispness. Very creamy mouth. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Oct 21, 2007 Updated: Oct 22, 200712 oz bottle Pours a jet black with a 1/2" tan head. Nose is coffee and roasted malts. Mouthfeel is thick and heavy. Flavor is roasted malt , mild coffee, some hops. Didn’t get the hoppy bitterness in the finish as some have. I love stouts and this one was no exception. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Oct 18, 2007 Updated: Jan 24, 2008Nice coffee/chocolate, alcoholic aroma with a slight dankness that is only lacking to the oak-aged version. Taste is total coffee and chocolate with bitter/smooth hops. Very very nice. Not as good as a fresh oak-aged. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 16, 2007 Pours a pitch black with a small, dense tan head. Full, rich, sweet biscuity aroma. Woah! Roasty flavour with more of the sweet biscuit taste - graham cracker? Lots of fresh, crisp hops. Creamy body with good carbonation. What a nice beer - very strong! xibalba89 (147), New York, New York, USA Oct 13, 2007 Pours black with a brown, frothy head. The aroma is full of bitter hops and coffee... very heavy. The flavor is more of the same... tons of coffee, bitter hops and hints of chocolate and caramel. I would like to sample this side by side with JavaStout... to my memory, they taste the same. Very creamy and heavy. Not quite as sweet as I prefer my stouts, but a really good beer regardless. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Oct 13, 2007 [Bottle] Pours black with a nice dark tan head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, a little coffee. Taste is roasted malt, coffee, some bitterness in the finish from the hops. Good, but a little hoppy. Thick mouthfeel. Long roasted finish. Smooth. A little hoppier than I like my stouts, but very well crafted.
