Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

This brew poured a very large envigorated head of brown colored mostly lasting finely sized bubbles that left behind an excellent lacing and a opaque black body with no visible carbonation. The stuff is dark! 70,000 mile motor oil dark. Darker that a starlee night. Darker than inside a cave. The aroma is all dark malt and the mouthfeel is intially full of coffee and finishes with coffee. Infact, it's palate is all coffee. The finish is slightly bitter. THe flavor is all coffee and dark malt. Very tasty and thick. And, at 9.5%, it has some kick. The alcohol content is very well hidden. I'd give it an even higher rating if it was a beer that I could drink and not sip. This brew goes a long way. Man what a beer! I am drinking this whole 1 pint 6 fl oz bottle and it is kicking! I mean kicking!

Bottle. Tasting @ Per 23-02-2007]. The Oak Aged was a great experience, so I was looking forward to try this one out. Color was as the Oak Aged very dark. Left an average head that was again very dark and creamy like. Good lacing. Aroma nice but not nearly as complex as the Oak Aged. The wonderful vanilla aroma from the Oak Aged is completely missing here. And of cause the oak aroma is not apparent. What could be detected was chocolate, coffee, smoke, licorice, roasted, leather, earth, nutty notes. Some hops notes can also be found that accommodate a slightly dry catachrestic to it. Full bodied and carbonation soft. Flavor was moderated to heavy bitter-sweet. Finish was nice bitter chocolate that lingers for a long time. This is a great Imperial Stout, but it is difficult not to compare it with the big brother. And in my opinion the Oak Aged is so much better then the “regular” stuff.

Bottle. A lot more squeezing than the oaked version, not so sweet. Still black with a brown head. Smell: coffee, chokolade. Taste chokolade, strong hop, roast malts, coffee. Again the taste of undesolved chokoladepowder, this dry chokolade flavour.

(Bottled, 0.33l) Pitch black with a medium, tight, brown and lasting head. Very malty, roasty and somewhat licoricey, delicious aroma with (a bit too evident) alcohol presence. Deliciously malty, quite roasty flavor with strong, bitter hops, licorice hints, a bit ashy finish, and well hidden alcohol. Not that complex, but very pleasant. Quite full-bodied, smooth and medium-carbonated palate. A great Imperial Stout with the emphasis on licorice and alcohol (beside the enormous roasty maltiness). As expected, it’s great with 70% chocolate :). (Bottled, 0.66l, was 8-4-9-5-16=4.2) Almost black with a small but lasting head. Very licoricey, slightly alcoholic aroma with vinous feel and quite a lot of malt. Sweetish-malty, very licoricey flavor with a smoothly hoppy. Quite full-bodied, very smooth palate with the strong hoppiness drowning in the malt. A delicious impy with all the ingredients necessary.

Visited the brewery in Denver and had a great time with Bernie, one of the brewers. Nothing like a great friendly brewery! What a beauty this was. Solid coffee ice cream head. Sweeeet! Solid mocha underlying character with a very sweet personality. I’m not a stout fan, but this is good stuff.

When you pours this you quickly smell and see that this is not your average brewed stout. This one has characther. Thick black with brown head. Strong chocolate and coffee notes. Filling in the mouth. The finish is lasting and pleasant bitter. WAUW! (Best imperial stout ive tasted to date)
