Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Rerate: this beer has always been good to me, over and over again. Perfect balance between bitter and chocolat malty tastes makes it the standard for a great imperial stout. Opaque color, thick creamy brown head. Aroma of dark chocolat, some coffee, slight salty, some raisin and ripe fruit, some pine and grapefruit as well. Nice bitter taste of black chocolat and coffee, quite creamy. Dry bitter palate. 4.0.

Near black colored with red hints. Medium sized beige head. Strong roasted aroma with vanilla note, berries, creamy chocolate and fine hops also present, soft aroma which reminds me lot about oak-aged brother of this. Medium to full bodied, smooth and creamy palate. Flavor is also rich with roastiness and chocolaty-caramelly tone in start, aftertaste turns to hopped with sweet chocolate still. Finely balanced and rather similar to OA-version.

Bottle, DBF2005. Jet Black, good lasting coffee beige head and moderate condition. Pleasing aromas of coffee, chocolate and phenolic roasted barley in the nose, Sweet and alcoholic in the mouth with chocolate and roast barley joined with a fruity liquorice edge. Lingering sweet creamy coffee in the finish with alcohol warmth and a final flourish of liquorice.

Big thick pour with a big head. Chocolate aroma. Sweet flavoured stout. Lots of layered chocolate. Bits of coffee and charcoal. Decent bitterness, the hops come through nicely in the finish especially as it warms. Way too drinkable for 9.5%. Palate like a chocolate marshmallow. (I know, I gave it a higher rating than the Oak, maybe I had lower expectations but I do like it)

Medium brown head leaves lacing on the glass. Nearly opaque black body with red translucence. Roasty bready deep malt aroma with raisin and hop notes. Dryish sweetish firm malty roasty taste with pine needle raisin notes. Sharpish, edgy. Dry roasty pine needle hop notes. Nice, but definitely improves when oak aged. (0.1l taster draft at EBF ’08.)

At my 2007 Impy Stout Tasting. Vintage 2004. Pours black with a wild head: Light and dark marble-colored swirls. How is this possible? The hugely thick head just will not die. This tastes very sharp on the tongue. Big coffee here. Super thick and rich palate. Has a slightly detergent aroma. Head is so thick that it is like a dollop of ice cream in my beer. Milk chocolate finish. Aging worked well for this one.
