Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Medium brown head leaves lacing on the glass. Nearly opaque black body with red translucence. Roasty bready deep malt aroma with raisin and hop notes. Dryish sweetish firm malty roasty taste with pine needle raisin notes. Sharpish, edgy. Dry roasty pine needle hop notes. Nice, but definitely improves when oak aged. (0.1l taster draft at EBF ’08.)

At my 2007 Impy Stout Tasting. Vintage 2004. Pours black with a wild head: Light and dark marble-colored swirls. How is this possible? The hugely thick head just will not die. This tastes very sharp on the tongue. Big coffee here. Super thick and rich palate. Has a slightly detergent aroma. Head is so thick that it is like a dollop of ice cream in my beer. Milk chocolate finish. Aging worked well for this one.

Black like a coalmine with a big, dense brown head. Wonderful aroma of black coffee, luxury chocolate, pepper and hops with touches of citric fruit. Big chocolately flavour with notes of espresso, roasted malts, toffee, tar and citric hops. Long bitter aftertaste of cocoa, dark chocolate, pepper and hops. A graet beer.

Pours like pitch black syrup. By far the darkest brew I have ever had, cannot see anything when held up to a light. Pours with an average size dark-brown head, creamy textured and resiliant.. Lacing is excellent. The smell is almost nothing like the taste. Both moderate amounts of Malty and Hoppy aromas surface. I detected citrus, pine, a nutty toasty smell, grain, and a lot of chocolate and maple syrup. The taste and feel are both heavenly. This medium boddied brew goes down cream smooth with just a faint hint of carbonation and alcohol. The intial flavor is heavly sweet and over the long duration finishes ever so slightly bitter. Tastes of freshly roasted coffee. . .with some chocolate, so a mocha? Best beer I have had in a while!

Bottle. Black beer with a good dark beige head. Chocolate and roasty malt aroma. Roasted malt flavor with coffee. Thick and rich, but surprisingly smooth. Good hop bitterness backing the malt. Vanilla and date in the background. Alcohol is there, but in the background.

The pour reveals a pitch black color with a thin brown head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Excellent aroma and flavor of resinous hops, roasted malt and chocolate with a strong bitter finish. The body has a medium thickness with a dry mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. This is really good, the malt is rich and the hops give a good sense of balance to roast and chocolate.

[RBG Low Countries 2005] (Sampled) Full and strong aroma of roasted coffee malts. Cloudy, black/brown coloured with a brown, lasting head. Taste is (hop)bitter and a bit sweet. Roasted coffee malts. Good body.
