Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Re-rate. Thought I would try this one again, this time, not after an entire day of beer festival! Courtesy of Hogtown Harry, I found this pretty similar to before, the difference this time being that I have since had several bottles of the Oak Aged version. I used to think such things as oak aged and whisky barrel aged were just gimmick terms, but I can honestly say this is an entirely different beer than the Oak. This version still looks and smells terrific, but the taste is bordering on harsh alcohol whereas the Oak is smooth and dessert like, thanks to its unique vanilla flavour. Still a very good imperial stout, but always reach for the Oak if you have a choice in my opinion. Original 7/5/8/5/17 4.2 Bottle shared after the brewfest with wohlfs and rudolf (thanks guys). Pitch black pour. Strong black licorice smell. A very hoppy stout in taste. Incredibly thick mouthfeel, bordering on too much, but doesn’t quite cross the line. A nice bitter finish as well and this one got better as it sat in the glass. Quite an experience really.

Bottle: Black pour with a big brown head. Roasty malt aroma, slightly boozy with licorice suggestions, chocolate, and mocha. Has a great creamy mouth feel. Tons of malt in the body that have a great roasty flavor, not that sticky sweet kind. Tons of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, tobacco and a good hop character as well. This is a great and balanced Imperial Stout.

Bottle from Utobeer. Near black in colour, impenetrable with a decent tight tan head with flecks of red. Aroma of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and citrus/pine resin hops. Big flavours of roasted malt and chewy caramel, giving way to grapefruit and a long dry finish with a rush of warming alcohol. This beer certainly was bold throughout but, as others have mentioned, it didn’t quite come together - it seemed like a half and half of two beers, one imperial stout and the other hoppy. Enjoyable nonetheless.

Bottle: (Alias Maverick) Strong licorice aroma with chocolate and coffee. Pours an extremely dark, motor oil black with a small tan head that fades quickly. Very malty. Great flavors of coffee, licorice, and chocolate. Finishes light bitter black coffee with nice malt balance. Some alcohol is noticeable in the finish, but very light. Moderate bitter black coffee aftertaste. Have had recent trouble with getting a real good imperial lately but this is one very good.

Appearance: Pours a rich-looking, inky black body with a tall, tan-colored head. Smell: Earthy, roasted malts with notes of espresso and rich, dark chocolate. Pine and citrus hop scents vie for attention. Taste: Creamy, dark chocolate, anise, and dark caramel represent the sweeter side of things, while the roasted malts and resinous pine hop flavor brings the countering bitterness. Ends with a rather dry, roasty bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Full-bodied. Concentrated, oily mouthfeel. Ample carbonation. Drinkability: A very solid, powerfully roasty beer.

Poured from a 2005 bottle I picked up at Brennan’s. This beer is a thick black body with a head that’s the color of cocoa powder. Excellent lacing. The aroma is dark chocolate and fully roasted malts. Pine is also apparent but masked pretty well. The flavor has some sort of strange hop that overcomes the chocolate. Almost a stale coffee. Something seems off but this bottle isn’t stale. I think it’s just the standard flavor I’m not liking. I love the BA version of this beer but don’t think this one takes the cake. Very hoppy for an imperial stout. Does anyone know what hops they used? The palate is nice and medium-full bodied with a bitter finish. 7/5/6/4/13 = 3.5 >>>>>>>> rerate 12/10/05 >>>>>>>>>>>>&g the 2004 vintage per a friend that’s not on ratebeer. It has a dry mouthfeel. Much smoother than I remember. Perhaps its all about the aging? Sampled a 2005 vintage and it definitely is harsher. Thanks Todd! 7/5/8/4/16 = 4
2003 Maverick bottle: Heavy hops. Compared to the 04 Yeti, the hops held up quite well but aren’t over-powering like a fresh 05 version. The beer has a dark brown head. Huge hoppiness to it. 8/5/8/4/17 = 4.2

Heavy vapors of alcohol, chocolate-coffee liqueur. Roasted black malts, molasses, licorice and smoke. Light hops aroma, overpowered by the malts. Inky black liquid with chocolate brown creamy lacing head. Heavy body, almost oily, with medium carbonation. Alcohol warming. Starts heavy and sweet, with big roasted malt, chocolate coffee notes, bitter and alkaline. Big hops finish to mellow out the sweetness. Big on taste throughout, starts sweet and ends on dry nutty bitterness. Good warming, too.
