Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Heavy vapors of alcohol, chocolate-coffee liqueur. Roasted black malts, molasses, licorice and smoke. Light hops aroma, overpowered by the malts. Inky black liquid with chocolate brown creamy lacing head. Heavy body, almost oily, with medium carbonation. Alcohol warming. Starts heavy and sweet, with big roasted malt, chocolate coffee notes, bitter and alkaline. Big hops finish to mellow out the sweetness. Big on taste throughout, starts sweet and ends on dry nutty bitterness. Good warming, too.

Beer was black in color with a good chocolate head. Lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma that stood out was of the roasted malts in this beer. Alcohol presence seamed to be the flavor but near the end of beer got a taste of a sweet caramel flavor. Easy on the palate, a good beer.

LIke the barleywine, this is also one massive beast. Excellent hoppy aroma. Coal black with tan head. First taste is the grainy bitter hops. The graininess continues into a slightly too alcoholic finish. A very thick stout that coats the mouth. It must be enjoyed very slowly but it can certainly be enjoyed.

Sweet molasses nose with a hint of toast and wood. Black onyc color and a lovely light brown head. Chocolate, coffee, nuts and roasted flavors with a licorice end. Low bitter, but a dry woody end. Massive imperial stout that I’d love to try again.

2003 Batch (Sampled under Maverick name):
Pitch black in colour, completely opaque with a nice thin light brown head. A nice look to a good old bottle. Aroma of cherries, strong coffee and bitter choclate (~70% cacao). Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt presence in the taste with a good chocolate and coffee taste following behind. The aftertaste shows a lot of the cherry character and some pit fruits, but it is more tart than I’d expect from an Imperial Stout. Overall, a nice beer, not as great for the style as i’ve tasted, but worth a try! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on Thanksgiving Thursday, 25-November-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, jerc & tupalev - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Jet black body with a dark brown head. Amazing aroma of rasted malt & nuts, caramel, coffee and hops. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy. Up until this point, it’s the equal of the oak aged version, but it falls behind in the flavour department - it starts really nicely, but the alcohol and hops get quite agressive in the finish. Still a pretty fantastic beer, but the oak aging really rounds out the rough edges, making it exceptional.

22oz bottle received as a gift from my Secret Santa.. Thanks Mullman - Pours black and thick with a brown creamy head that laces quite well. Aromas of chocolate covered raisins, plums and a bit of coffee. Flavor is beautifully smokey, quite coffee-like, roasted malts, some plum, a touch of caramel, and a great chocolate coating over it all. The taste is quite complex and quite delicious. The palate is amazing. Absolutely great feel in the mouth thick and chewy but oh so creamy and smooth. So rich and so delicious.. I hardly noticed the 75 IBUs, but then I hardly noticed the 9.5% alcohol either. I’m looking forward to trying the Oak Aged.. I find it difficult to figure out how this could improve much more. Great stuff.

Bomber (three to four years old): Pours jet black with a thin brown head, aroma has huge chocolate, coffee and pine with notes of oranges, starts and ends bitter with a long bitter smoky chocolate/caramel ending. Thick bodied with oily mouthfeel, mild carbonation and just plain yummy.
