Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Bomber. Huge rich chocolate aroma with light coffee and firm, rounding red berry. Pitch black, motor oil style, with a huge dark brown head, tinged with grey, tiny-bubbled and rocky, with great retention. Bitter taste full of chocolate but no roast, with light bittering from pleasantly present hops. Dark and slashing impy, earthy tones with some significant sweetness. Loads and loads of malt and just a touch of pine near the back end. Great with ice cream! Full body but not obese, aftertaste is a bit wearing. Slight prickling sensation after enough volume, hop-related for sure as the alcohol is well hidden and non-numbing. Dry aftertaste reminds of espresso, though only the aftertaste, as the malty sweetness drowns out any notes of coffee that may have been in the main body. Straightforward and extremely robust.

Fully opaque black body and ruddy-brown head with fair lacing. Milk chocolate nose. Coffee and chocolate flavor. Nice bitter coffee finish. Body feels a bit light for an imperial stout. Still damn good though.

2003 bottling. Pours nearly black with a dense, thick, creamy tan head. A ton of caramel in the aroma as well as earthy hops and a touch of chocolate. The inky black liquid reveals nice complexity upon my sip, with dry chocolate flavors, roasted malt, caramel and alcohol interplaying with bittering hops. Flavors blend nicely, and the beer leaves a "warm" aftertaste with alcohol and somewhat bitter hops. On second thought, the aftertaste could be toned down a bit. Overall a very nice Imperial Stout.

The commercial description says it is "almost viscous." Bullcrap. it is viscous. It made glopping sounds going into my glass. Extremely dark with a head that laces like a brown backout curtain. Heavy hop aroma with roasted bakers choclate in the background. Tastes better than I thought it would. The roastiness comes through what is undoubtedly a great deal of hops. Still on the verge of being too hoppy to my palate, but the beer works well and is far superior to many of the wave of big imperial stouts I’ve had.

[bottle - 22 oz] Dark black pour with a long and lasting tan head. Very thick and rich aroma of roasted malts, alcohol and sweet malts and molasses. The taste is very sweet at the beginning, lots of roasted and toasted malts and chocolate. The middle has more of a hoppy bite with some possible toffee taste mixed in. The finish is very rich and sweet with lots of alcohol and surprisingly not much aftertaste.

Black beer with a brown head that shrunk down to nothing. The nose was sugar, coffee and alcohol. Very smooth drinking beer with hints of coffee, toffee, licorice and burnt caramel. It was not as full bodied as I expected from an imperial, but still a fine beer. Thanks TAR.

Bottle. 2005. Pours a pitch black body with a large brown-mocha head. Smells of heavy chocolate, green hops, toffee, and lots of resinous fruity hops. Tastes quite hoppy, and very flavourful by that account. Thick and chewy roasted malts with tame alcohol lingering. Immensly palatable.
