Very thick and rich aroma of roasted malts, alcohol and sweet malts and molasses. The taste is very sweet at the beginning, lots of roasted and toasted malts and chocolate. The middle has more of a hoppy bite with some possible toffee taste mixed in. The finish is very rich and sweet with lots of alcohol and surprisingly not much aftertaste. Dense layer of bronze foam. Colossal aroma of tar, coffee, baker’s chocolate, molasses, smoke, maple, and tropical fruity American hops from the dry-hopping. Earthy, burnt, and vinous. Mellow carbonation. Thick mouthfeel, but it suffers from not being bottle-conditioned. Subtle initial acidiity detracts from the mouthfeel before a crescendo of pine cones dipped in tar. As it warms, milk chocolate flavors become more pronounced. Finishes with persistent notes of fudge, tar, molasses and sea salt. Accompanying piney hop belches. Overall, the acidity is too evident, but the alcohol is very well hidden. The palate would be remarkable if only this were bottle-conditioned and the aromatic hops mask the more-expressive malts. A rather assertive example which should age fairly well since it’s massively hopped and only coarsely filtered. PhillyBeer2112 (2087), Orange Park, Florida, USA

Even as it pours, it seems opaque, but I can see the brownish color. Quite dark tan head as well, firm and creamy. Aroma of caramel and molasses, mild roast and maybe a touch of coffee, a sprinkle of something piney. Full, rich and rounded. On the whole sweet, but its more than that. The sweetness blends right into a strongly hoppy finish. Hop flavorings seem difficult to identify mixed with such strong roasted chocolate malts, but are otherwise clearly apparent. Perhaps the hoppiest imperial stout I’ve had. Full bodied, but not too heavy - instead dangerously drinkable...I had to intentionally slow down on this one! Alcohol in the finish, warming in the chest, heady. SSSteve (2064), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

The aroma has lots of woody / earthy hops, charred / roasted malt and extra bitter dark chocolate - very nice. The body is fairly thick body that is lush and velvety with a light amount of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of woody hops and well roasted malt and lots of earthy hops as well and coffee hints. The finish is a bit resinous and bitter from the hops and highly roasted malt. Excellent hop based impy stout. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 27, 2006 bomber - Pours deep, dark black with a thin tan head. It has a good dark roast malt aroma with some chocolate notes. The flavor is a nice, smooth dark roast with coffee and chocolate notes and ample hops. The big hops are a fine complement to this characteristically huge style. Well done, GD.
