There is a lot of chocolate and roasted malt flavor - this is a huge beer. Slightly carbonated and nicely hopped. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 21, 2004 Quite simply one of the darkest, oiliest pours I have ever seen. Thick viscous 10,000 mile used motor oil body topped by a gorgeous medium sized, rocky, dark tan head. The aroma is roasted bitter malt, citrus hops, and choco-coffee. The flavor is big burnt malt, with some sweet molasses and loads of citrus hops. The usual assortment of chocolate and coffee are also in there, but the bitterness of the hops and roasted malts are quite strong. The body is huge and creamy. The aftertaste lingers and is almost like a good espresso. Yum-yum. This is an excellent Imperial Stout. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 25, 2007 I think Heathen has it right. Pours a black black brew, not quite the oil consistency i like, but black nonetheless. The aroma is sweet (bueno) and then there is this hop that shows up (reminds me of 06’ Storm King). The aroma also has some chocolate and slight slight roast to it, alcohol was not present for me. the flavor had a mild hop bit (not expecting), roasted flavor, coffee, and didn’t have the alcohol backbone i’ve come to expect from the style. The palate was the typical full, burnt, smooth and lacked any individual charm. The finish was warm (only hint of alcohol) and was a little thin. Overall, a it is up and down an imperial stout. Sadly the only unique spin they put on it is undesirable (by me anyways). Lacks the complexity and "wow" to get a great score but is still solid enough for the 4. kappldav123 (1884), Markkleeberg, Germany
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 19, 2008 The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Very dark foam. Starts strong-malty and prickly, notes of coffee and liquorice, woody finish. A bit too prickly I think, but still good! stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2003 Dark chocolate nose. Headless, thick and black. Quite a soft mouthfeel, silky, and oily. Dark chocolates and slight undertones of roastiness. Not all that flavorful, really, and not as hoppy as it boasts. Sure, it is bitter at the end, but 75 IBU??? Something tells me that these Maverick series Imperial Stouts didn't age well in the bottle!!! Early ratings speak of head and lacing. Middle ratings speak of bad head retention. This bottle sparked zero head and only an oily clear splash on the side of the glass. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2003 Dense opaque, dark scarlet tinted black appearance beneath a thick (albeit quickly dissipating) chocolaty almost purpleish foam. Rich, creamy fruity alcohol aroma with a roasty, rain dampened charcoal maltiness. Sweet fruity flavor at first, touch of sherryness. Turns to a heavily roasted second half. Hoppy bitterness very marked in the finish lingering well into the aftertaste along with dry dark chocolate. iowaherkeye (1873), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 22, 2006 22oz. bomber, no date. Pours a black with a small tan head. The aroma reminds me of Gonzo Imperial Porter, though maybe a little thicker. The strongest aromas are chocolate, pine, and coffee. Dig deeper and I get some earthy hops, anise, molasses. Flavors are much the same with chocolate in the finish, and the piney hops coming in full bore right before that. Roasted malts thoughout. Full-bodied and silky, with soft carbonation. Very very good beer.
