Commercial Description:
Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti's hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

Strong chocolate, roasted malts, plenty of orange/herbal hops in the very appealing aroma. Opaque black body is topped by two fingers of dark brown head that recedes to cover. Huge, sweet malty flavour with plenty of orangey hop character and a creeping roastiness that emerges in the finish. Becomes more and more coffee-like as it warms. Lucious, thick, rich, decadent mouthfeel. Full-bodied with a smooth, creamy texture. Very sticky. Bottle (marked 9/04 - traded Dec. 2004). Thanks, Kawa!

Just traces of a dark orange head. Of course the body is black. The aroma is relatively light with some grass, tobacco and brown sugar. The taste is very roasted with hints of raspberries, dark chocolate and toffee. A relatively light impy stout. Plenty of carbonation. A solid, but not spectaular brew.

Aroma of dark roasted malt, backed by coffee and chocolate. Starts with a very strong, almost licorice, flavor. Ok, this could be "massive, roasty". I think there’s coffee. This is so massive that the chocolate gets hidden for the most part. It does not finish all that dry, and the hop is almost overcome by the toasted malt. That massive, roasty seems to be keeping the hop out of my taste profiling. There is bitter in the finish, but I’m not convinced it’s hop. Strong stuff. If there are stoutheads, this should work for them. Note: after some passage of time, I actually think I find grapefruit. Still this is dark roasted stuff.

Black hue with reddish edges. A small solid tan head is produced with very good lacing. Aroma of prune, spice, caramel, espresso, and fruity hops. Thick and chewy mouthfeel led to a twangy bittersweet taste. A minor sweet undertone follows into a dry and sticky finish. Full-bodied stout which I liked a lot. Highly recommended.

Bottle at home ... Deep Deep black with thin brown bubbly head ... Rich chocolate malt ... Sweet rich chocolate malts ... little caramel lots or roast malts ... quite a bit of spirit... little american hop shows through but not unbalancing it ...though the hoppyness builds a bit much over time... I suspect that this is no worse than the oak aged (from memory) yet i suspect this is a more representative score.

The Kilburn Gathering. Black with an oily dark brown coffee coloured foam - such an inviting and beautiful colour. Aroma is interesting, like an IPA and a stout. Oh! No! Taste is rough. That IPA and stout clash is really hard to take. This feels crude and ugly. Nothing like any Imperial Stout I’ve had. Gee. This is a dark hop monster. Coffee and mad citric hops - what an ugly and insane combination. Sweet and way off balance. This is like some mad stuff just thrown together to see what happens. And for my palate this mad chef’s concoction does not work.

Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted with some chocolate. It had less coffee than i expected. when swirled it left a tan oily film on the glass. Flavor is roasty, sweet, bittersweet chocolate with some soy sauce tang at the very end. Finished with hop bitterness and alcohol warmth. Medium bodied.
