Nice tan-brown head, great look for a stout. Smells piney - almost woody. Assault on the senses indeed. Extremely thick, creamy, caramel/toffe/sometimes fruity taste, with a great hop finish that hides the alcohol remarkably well for a bomber. This will be perhaps too sweet for some - but I can’t complain. A big, beautiful beer. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA

Deep black pour with a nice creamy tan head. Sweet aroma with plenty of chocolate & coffee, plus some cream. Creamy chocolate and roasted malt taste. Nice hop backing, with a thick hoppy finish. Very good Impy stout - can’t wait to try the Oak aged version! xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

22 oz bomber
Bottled Fall 05(?), tamed 10/06
Medium pour in an English pint.
Poured black with a mostly lasting light brown frothy head with excellent lacing.
Smelt strongly of dark chocolate, dark coffee roast.
Taste was upfront strong bitter dark chocolate followed by an equally strong bitter coffee feel and moderate bitter grassy hops with a moderate toffee sweetness, and faint fruity esters, on a long smoky vinous perfumey finish. Mouthfeel was medium/heavy, syrupy, soft carbonation and light to moderate soothing alcoholic warmth, and moderate to strong astringency.
Overall, a great imperial stout that offers bold taste and aroma, and looks dangerously satisfying. Hits strongly but satisfyingly. A great winter warmer.
Side note: It is more well rounded in flavors and mouthfeel than its oak-aged counterpart, but this brew is as good as it gets flavorwise, whereas aging the oak-aged version would soften it and propel it over the regular version. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 1, 2008 Strong dark malt and coffee like aromas, with hints of toffee, vanilla, and sour cream. Solidly opaque, dark, dark brown with a brown colored head. Flavor is dark rich malt that sticks to the tongue, chocolate, some smoked wood, mild saltiness, and some creaminess. Palate is rich and fairly thick with a good long stout duration and a mildly bitter finish. Very good. VeloVampire (490), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 8, 2007 12 oz bottle - pours thick inky black, with a nice sized tan head. Huge aromas of both dark chocolate and lots of hops. Also some alcohol in the aroma. Some pleasing sourness as well. Thick oily mouthfeel, spreading all the flavours across the palate. Black plum, coffee, chocolate, roasted barley, hops and a creaminess as well. More alcohol in the back of the mouth. Superbly bitter dry finish that lasts for quite a while. Excellent overall. 502Flavors (621), Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Firstly, I can’t believe I found this beer in my hometown, and, furthermore, that it was at a party super-store and was covered in dust. So I came home, dusted it off and cracked it open. Intoxicating, sticky rich aroma of chocolate, molasses, hints of hops, malty sweetness, coffee beans and flowers. Rich, pitch black appearance with a creamy and thick (3-finger) dark brown head that settles slowly and provides for great lacing. The flavor was very complex and embodied all of the great aromas and more, including a hint of black licorice. The 9.5 abv. is hidden very well, yet the slight and comforting edge of alcohol presence remains. The brew warms the stomach nicely. It exhibited a sticky and heavy, yet very smooth, palate that yields well to those rich and creamy aromas and flavors listed above. I bout this beer for 4.50 and would easily pay 10 for the next. Great deal and in no way a let down. I hope I can find this beer again!
[RE-RATE] This bad boy was my number one. Lets see how I perceive it now. The aroma is not quite what I remember. Good but a hint of soy. The beer itself is still a pretty big bodied, well balanced Imperial stout. Very drinkable, a bit lighter body than I remember. A bit more hops on the flavor than I remember. Looks like I have a new number one. Good luck NogneO Imperial Stout and PumKing... you too will be rerated some day! donfardz64 (420), Wellington, New Zealand

Big hop flavour, grapefruit subdued by big thick sweet roasted malt. Dark fruit mingle with the hoppy fruits perfectly, creating a harmonious mouth coating flavour making this impy stout dangerously drinkable.
