But this is a good stout. It is not too heavy on the roasty/smoky stuff, and has a sweet undertone that is pleasing. Very creamy mouthfeel, but not sticky or cloying. Looks great in a dimple mug too. Not one of the Imperial Stout superstars on Ratebeer, but it is a damn good brew. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

This beer is excellent! Ok, im going on a rant here. This beer is very under-rated IMO. Tons of chocolate notes that meld with caramel and toffee to create the taste of a milky way candy bar. For me, this is a top 10 imperial stout! Very under-rated. This will age very nicely and cant wait to see how it turns out.
22 oz bottle 2003-pours almost pitch black with a minimal tan head. nice looking brew. robust flavors of coffee and chocolate. no alcohol detected. well balanced and solid. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 9, 2003 Bottle. Solid black color with a dark brown head. A complex aroma with chocolate and toffee that is soon overtaken by dark fruits as the beer warms. A deep rich flavor with a full body that bathes the palate and leaves a lingering licorice and fruity finish. Quite a treat. Thanks to hopsrus for the trade. Very malty, roasty and somewhat licoricey, delicious aroma with (a bit too evident) alcohol presence. Deliciously malty, quite roasty flavor with strong, bitter hops, licorice hints, a bit ashy finish, and well hidden alcohol. Not that complex, but very pleasant. Quite full-bodied, smooth and medium-carbonated palate. A great Imperial Stout with the emphasis on licorice and alcohol (beside the enormous roasty maltiness). As expected, it’s great with 70% chocolate :).
(Bottled, 0.66l, was 8-4-9-5-16=4.2) Almost black with a small but lasting head. Very licoricey, slightly alcoholic aroma with vinous feel and quite a lot of malt. Sweetish-malty, very licoricey flavor with a smoothly hoppy. Quite full-bodied, very smooth palate with the strong hoppiness drowning in the malt. A delicious impy with all the ingredients necessary. walleye (881), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Since there are 5 pages of tasting notes on this beer already I will just offer some knowledge about it that I have not read here and that I may have special privy to. This beer ranked 2nd in the 2003 Alpha King Competition which determines the hoppiest beer in America. I know because I judged in it and was lucky enough to have the #1 and #2 beers at my table. How does an Imperial Stout do well in a hoppy beer competition? - Well, it is very hoppy and very drinkable which were the 2 requirements for the competition. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA
