| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 15, 2007 Pours a thick inky black color with a good 2" of deep brown head. Some spidery lacing. Nice roasted grains in the aroma.
Strong roasted malt, coffee, toffee, and black cherry in the flavor. A delicious combination. Then, a solid hop bitterness is followed by an alcoholic aftertaste. Full bodied, softly carbonated, potent. In a word - splendid. AmEricanbrew (1929), orange, California, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 4, 2006 This beer offers a nice hearty aroma of coffee blended with toffee. It pours as a black solution that rests under a thick milky brown head that sticks around a while. This moderately thick beer spreads well through the mouth tingling all the taste buds with the sweet taste of coffee and malt. Those flavors transform into a caramel flavor as the solution flows down the throat. sunevdj (1785), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Has a strong caramel/sugary effect in the back of the throat. Port-like. nice warming alcohol in the finish. I actually prefer this one to the oak aged version. beerbill (1975), Laurel, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 5, 2007 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Pours an opaque black with a massive mocha colored head. Lots of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee in the aroma. Lots of flavor in this brew too. Initially, there is plenty of roasted malt with chocolate also very present. The coffee is there as well, but not as strong as the other two. After a few seconds, a long, bitter finish kicks in from the hops. There is also some heat from the alcohol in the finish. Really, really good stuff! stoutchap (297), Chicago, Illinois, USA
