Left tons of lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma was bread, roasted malts, caramel, and some alcohol coming through. Flavor explodes. Roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Finish is rough, with the alcohol coming out in the finish. Very rich and creamy. Love this beer. Love Great Divide too, can’t go wrong with a Great Divide. Can’t wait to try the oaked aged yeti.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 22, 2009 12 oz. bottle into snifter. Pours almost black with a finger or so of tan head. Aroma is huge with roasted malts and a little bitter chocolate. The flavor is chocolatey with a touch of coffee and dried fruits that finishes with a wonderful caramel flavor that lingers on the palate. Yum. nramsburg (206), New York, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Trying this from a 12 oz. Pours to one of the darker colors I can remember -- holding it up to a lamp reveals literally no direct evidence of the light. Light white head. Typically toasty and bready aromas and I also pick up a clove/tobacco element.
It’s sweeter than I’d imagined, but definitely not too much so. It’s an imperial stout, so this is a nice segue into the evident alcohol. As with the Oak-aged, you don’t quickly forget that this is 9%+ alcohol. It’s pretty full, but not what I’d really call creamy. Round might be the right word. The finish though, I actually enjoy more than on its aged brother: no oaking allows for a nice semi-bitter finish to linger with just enough dark chocolateness.
Great Divide puts out solid beers and this is no exception. Try it head-to-head with the oak aged. Personally, though, this is my winner. Rodders (127), Norwich, Norfolk, England

Didn’t take notes at the time, but was very dark brown with dark head and big viney, chocolately nose. Great classic imperial stout taste, strong, bitter chocolate with a touch of sweetness and red fruit. Very good. mikalooch (171), , New Jersey, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 17, 2009 12 oz bottle for this rating. Pours pitch black with a beautiful brown head heavy with lacing. Aroma is mostly roast malt and chocolate. Taste is bitter chocolate, a touch of coffee in the middle, and finishes off with a nice sweet caramel with a touch of floral hops. Very thick and viscous but ridiculously easy to drink. This is world class stuff, get it. lukeherinckx (25), Silverdale, Washington, USA

Taste is phenomenal with an awesome caramel finish that lasts the perfect amount of time. Amazizing edward_violet (17), Michigan, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Aroma is hops and soy sauce... some chocolate notes.
Deep deep brown appearance.
Taste is very complex: a lot of hops, alcohol presence... burned coffee and very dark chocolate... raisin and even grape-skin-like... in its best moments you’ve got dark chocolate covered raisins, and in its worst moments, you’re chasing cough syrup with coffee. Aftertaste of caramel and old library book.
Palate: Batch I had was very smooth... little fizz, barely any head at first, then bubbles creeping up... this is December 2009, and it was bottled in March of ’06. I’ll compare a fresher batch some time, but I really like this one.

Aroma is cocoa, dark chocolate, some coffee
nice roasted malt nuttiness underneath.
Flavour is roasted malty goodness. light to medium sweetness. A hint of raisin and dark fruit, but mainly that warm roasted flavour, some chocolate both dark and bitter. taphandle (35), Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Very dark beer with a dark brown and thick head. The aroma of chocolate comes up as soon as it’s poured. I may even detect a very slight hint of coconut. The taste is thick with chocolate and coffee flavors and then there’s the feel or taste of the alcohol on your tongue and in your throat which is especially apparent in the finish. This is a great stout and it’s the first time I’ve ever had it.
