changeup45 (577), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2008 Updated: Aug 24, 2008 Pours a black color topped with a nice thick deep brown head. The head does settle down to small patches on top. Roasted malt aroma with toffee and molasses backed with some hops. Mouthfeel is rich, heavy and very full. Flavor starts with roasted bitter malts with some burned dark chocolate and toffee. It finishes with some bitter hops and a lot of bold black coffee which can be tasted in the aftertaste for a long time. A bit dry and warming. There isn’t necessarily an alcoholic rush but the flavors are bold, bitter and complex and it is evident that this beer is high in abv. I loved sampling this beer. It’s probably not going to be a regular for me and I doubt I want too many at one seating but this beer was quite a bit of fun. I have a bottle of the Oak Aged version so I look forward to that one.
