Commercial Description:
Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) will celebrate its 15th anniversary on September 6, 2003. In recognition of this anniversary, GLBC will release a specialty brew called Anniversary Ale that will be available throughout September in a new 4-pack package at local grocers and on tap at taverns, including GLBC's brewpub. Anniversary Ale is a Belgian Trippel ale that is pale golden in color with mild fruity and spicy characteristics and a slightly sweet flavor that lends itself to a strong, crisp finish. The specialty craft brew is the strongest beer to be bottled and packaged by GLBC with an alcohol by volume of 9.5%.

Light golden body, little to no head, nice yeast deposits present. Sweet, sugary citrus aroma (orange/ tangerine.) Extremely sweet malt body. Sugar cane, citrusy orange flavors, light notes of grapefruit, sugary finish. Almost cloyingly sweet finish- well balanced, little hops present. Not complex enough to be considered a great tripel but moderately enjoyable nevertheless. Sweetness becomes overwhelming.

Straw gold with a thin cap of lace and very low carbonation for the style. The aroma is slightly funky and spicy with peppers, candi sugar and lemon. The flavor is very spicy with a smooth initially taste but then it burns it's way down with the spicy alcoholed body. Finishes sharp and spicy with a yeasty tail. Thanks jsquire!

Dark yellow pour, slightly golden, thin film of white head and large spotty lacing. Varied aromas of biscuit or yeast, spicy; maybe clove, hops and citrus fruit. Yup, the spices attack first. Followed by a cider flavor, floral hops, more of the biscuit, and a touch of alcohol. Creamy palate, semi-high levels of carbonation, and a finish of sweet alcohol.

The label makes me think it will taste like cake. mmmmm cake. This one has a sharp spiced apple crisp and baked cinnamon desert aroma... not exactly cake, but a close-enough dessert. Damn this is pretty much a dessert beer. Sweet lemons and oranges mixed in the flavor, with a sweet and spicy soap flavor as well. Very sharp overall.

Hazy and bright yellow-orange with a thinnish, white head. Really nice texture -- thick and clean. Strong players -- big sweetness (maybe a little too sweet, though), nice yeast flavors, aromatic spices, moderately bitter hoppiness, and a little alcohol nip -- all complement one another well. Nice fruitiness (orange, lemon, pear), too. Kind of like a spice cake. Spicy, sweet, chewy and flavorful trippel; a pleasure to drink.

The beer after disemboguing from the bottle is a somewhat bemused golden amber color with the head modest in size, spumescent in texture and a brilliant white color, the lace forms a sating sheet to lie upon the glass. Nose is citrus crisp, lemon like, under laid by an earthy yeastiness, fresh and pleasing to the senses, start is cotton candy sweet, rich in malt with the top fair to middling in feel to the palate. Finish is docile in its acidity, the hops savourous, quite dry aftertaste with a hint of alcohol bitterness, and a definite warming in the abdominal area, quite nice this beer, from a great brewery.

Bottle. Hazy golden color, spicy sweet fruits in the nose and the taste. A little too much on the sweet side, but still tastes great. Easy drinkin' 9.5% abv beer- lookout!
