Commercial Description:
Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) will celebrate its 15th anniversary on September 6, 2003. In recognition of this anniversary, GLBC will release a specialty brew called Anniversary Ale that will be available throughout September in a new 4-pack package at local grocers and on tap at taverns, including GLBC's brewpub. Anniversary Ale is a Belgian Trippel ale that is pale golden in color with mild fruity and spicy characteristics and a slightly sweet flavor that lends itself to a strong, crisp finish. The specialty craft brew is the strongest beer to be bottled and packaged by GLBC with an alcohol by volume of 9.5%.

Pours a syrupy looking deep yellow gold. Good white head. Aroma is slightly sharp and phenolic. Herbal and spicy. Body is very smooth and creamy, bananas and candied sugar. Good fresh flavor and decent belgian yeast appeal BUT as much as I bitch about belgians being highly carbonated, when they arent and are flat, such as this is, it just dosent seem appealing. Too sweet and flat and syrupy. Very good flavors though other than that.

2003: Bottled. Cloudy, bright orange, ginger-spice in the rather weak nose. Rather sour and tart, heavier than most and low on the sugar; major improvements when close to room temp. Good, but not for me a classic.

October 2004, on tap at Great Lakes: gorgeous aroma of sweet brown sugar, sweet apples and bananas...warming calvados on the tongue, mingled with a hint of fresh sour apple, banana, and white pepper, wondrously balanced. Vastly better this time around.

Pours a yellow/orange with thick fading head. Aroma is of orange and light banana esters. Taste is slightly sweet with a bitter finish. Not bad but unrefined.

Pours a nice golden color, very little carbonation and head disappears fairly quickly. Would expect more carbonation in a trippel. Taste is a bit off--hard to peg but has an overly sour taste. Not something I would seek out again.

Unpleasant semi-sweet malt and alc nose. Golden color, flat with no head. Abrassive at points but it does have a large soft juicy sweetness. Nice body, but too much light grains and alc leave this kind of unpleasant.

spicy cream aroma, golden with no real head, it burns and the burning builds with creaminess and a bitter finish, alcohol is just too abrasive

bottle-sampled with whaleman-the last beer of the new mexico beer marathon! I was suprised how good this beer was. I think its under-rated. Pale/golden yellow appearance. sweet belgian malts and roasted meats in the aroma(maybe more bacon?) nice sweet palate with some wheat grains in the finish. the belgian yeast tingled my toungue quite a bit. Again, i get some smoked meats in the palate. thanks to whaleman's secret santa (somebody in Ohio) for this solid and under-rated brew.

Dusty, lemon-colored body with a few distinct jets of carbonation. Aroma of citrus, wheat, and yeast. Tangy, mouth-puckering flavor with some decent hops in the finish. Palate is slightly syrupy. A solid beer.
