Commercial Description:
Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) will celebrate its 15th anniversary on September 6, 2003. In recognition of this anniversary, GLBC will release a specialty brew called Anniversary Ale that will be available throughout September in a new 4-pack package at local grocers and on tap at taverns, including GLBC's brewpub. Anniversary Ale is a Belgian Trippel ale that is pale golden in color with mild fruity and spicy characteristics and a slightly sweet flavor that lends itself to a strong, crisp finish. The specialty craft brew is the strongest beer to be bottled and packaged by GLBC with an alcohol by volume of 9.5%.

Golden colour with a slight haze and thin white head. Estery aroma with full notes of citrus rind, freshly baked dough, cloves and perfume. Flavours are just as full with peppery yeast, orange flesh, bananas, sourdough, and sweet pears. What a treat.

Hazy golden hue with small white head and some lace. Interesting aroma of mango, pear, pineapple, musty yeast, sweet wood and aromatic hops. Taste starts spicy and tart, yeast character shows up fast. Got undertones of pineapple and wood with lingering fruit. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp, slighty chalky well after the finish. What a wonderful brew, I liked this one a lot, as did most at the DC gathering.

Malty, estery aroma, sweet and flowery with notes of apricot, banana, pear, white grape and melon, also some honey, yeast spiciness and faint, vaporous alcohol. Deep, hazed golden color, substantially diminishing head. Begins tart and fruity, turning sugary and malty with hints of vanilla, and finishing peppery, spicy, juicy, long and gently hopped. Lightly syrupy texture, smooth and moderately acidic, full-bodied. Interesting take on the style. Alcohol is noticeably absent from the flavor profile but is undoubtably present. Label recommends serving at 45 deg. F, I humbly submit that that is much too cold. 55-60 seems to bring out a more desirable, full and well-rounded character. Thanks a bunch, Jeff.

I'd long wanted to try Great Lakes, and I now understand all the hype. Amazing ale. Nice peach color. Nose is sour, tart, and cidery. Very fruity flavor, peach, apricot, and lots of apple with some spice at the end. Lovely palate, sticky and very vinous, wonderfully thick. Absolutely stellar.

I noted apples, oranges, and yeast in the aroma. The color was golden as it should be. The flavor was sweet and citrusy. Mouthfeel was light, with a touch of carbonation. I'm looking forward to trying more beer from Great Lakes.

Crystal clear, light golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Very spicy nose with lots of clove, some mango and maybe a touch of pear. The flavor is very sweet and malty with plenty of clove and nutmeg. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lengthy, sweet, astringent finish with a touch of straw at the very end.

Good and fairly typical American triple. I liked the thicker mouthfeel than is usual for this style, which negated what would have probably been an astringent flavor. Not great but certainly very good.

Golden color with medium amount of white head. Aroma is typical tripel, maybe a little sweeter. Flavor is good, pretty sweet, slightly spicey, with a noticable alcohol warming as it heads towards my stomach. Overall it's not the best triple out there, but it's good.
