Almost black colour. Pretty low head. Wonderful, whiskey/bourbon-like milk-chocolatey aroma, with cocoa and licorice in the background. A pleasant alcohol scent contributes here I must say. Smooth mouthfeel with chocolate most prominent, then comes chocolate and menthol. Soft cocoa finish, where alcohol thankfully is one of the things that makes this a grat beer. Not very big mouthfeel, pretty light on its feet but a stunning, long finish. Marsiblursi (1659), Göteborg, Sweden
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2007 (Bottle, thanks to moejuck) Pours dark brown to black. Roasted malt and bourbon aroma with tones of coconut and vanilla. Also some chocolate, cocoa, caramel, some alcohol warmth and some small hints of liquorice. Roasted, liquorice and chocolate flavour with some coffee coming through in the end. Pretty salty and some wood in the background. Clean, light thick and round mouthfeel. Light alcoholy and light bitter. Medium to full body. A good not to overpowering US Imp. CharlesDarwin (1864), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2007 22oz Bottle. Rambling aroma of thinning nuts, fire and marshmallow. Coffees come forth, but fade quickly. Subdued and absent. Pours deep brown with ruby corners and a rim of tan. Light carbonation. A machismo of coffee rubs against the grain of background wood and toothy sugars. Chewiness absent. Bright and nostril burning. Fairly dry and not overly heavy. Nutty dry. Smack excells in this beer with a never ending carousel of left over coffee tannins, chocolate dust, chipotle and edges of earth. Thanks for sharing, Andy! I believe OhioDad was responsible for my opportunity to sample this elusive brew. Very Dark Lordish in aroma. Mostly opaque body. Caramelly. Not quite Dark Lord, but close. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 5, 2007 Sampled at DLD 07 - Pour mahogany with a tan head. The aroma has very sweet bourbon with creamy vanilla and roasted malt - fairly smooth. Medium / thin body with soft carbonation. The flavor starts with bourbon that is cotton-candy sweet, then some roasted malt comes in. The finish has very sweet bourbon that lingers along. It is very hard to find the stout in this from all of the bourbon that exerts its presence. madscotsman (147), Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2007 Pours very dark with a nice tan head. Had a strong aroma of bourbon, chocolate and malts. Can taste the alcohol in the finish. Nice example of an Imperial Stout. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 2, 2007 sampled at DLD - Pours black with a moderate tan head and an intense bourbon aroma. The flavor includes roast malt, coffee, chocolate, and substantial bourbon. The aroma, while quite good, made me thinking the flavor might be overpowered by the bourbon, but that’s just not the case. It’s well balanced and really good. Hopefully someday I’ll find a bottle for myself. cbkschubert (2023), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 22, 2007 22 oz. bottle 109/900 via trade with OhioDad and sliffy - Pours a dark brown color with a 3/4 finger thick light tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Aroma is mostly bourbon with some roasted malt and a touch of vanilla. Flavor is bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and roasted malt. All blended quite nicely. The alcohol is apparent but not over bearing. Smooth mouthfeel, but a little thin for an IS. Medium body. Could use a tad bit more carbonation. An excellent beer. Thanks Scott and Dan.
