However, aroma has everything: dark fruit, chocolate, coffee. Taste is chocolate and sweet roasted malt. The roasted malt overpowers a tad in my opinion. Then the hops and alcohol hit you. The mouthfeel is fulfilling, and the beer is thankfully well-bodied. After suddenly realizing I drank 3/4ths of the glass, I realize why they call this blackout stout. inkubus27 (252), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2008 mmmmm... aroma sets off all those little butterflies in my beer belly... recollects some dark fruits, raisins, chocolate and hints of coffee. Pours a completely opaque obsidian with a nice head. Taste is chocolaty and sweet. Very palatable, finish leaves a clean and satisfying taste in your mouth. One of the better imperial stouts for the money in my opinion. scoobysnak (249), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Pours black, go figure. A small surprisingly light head that reduces to a film around the edge and a very small smidgen of bubbles in the center. Smell is slightly raisiny, dark chocolate, and maybe roasted malts but it is very faint due to the overpowering dark fruit and chocolate. The taste is more malt than I expected from the smell, a good tartness that really hits the back of your tongue nicely. An almost vinous alcohol quality that is fairly noticeable initially but then you get the roasted malts and a little chocolate. Good alcohol warmth going down that is very pleasant sitting in your belly. Leaves a nice warmth and a roasted taste in your mouth to remember it by.
