The aroma is sweet and malty, without much alcohol evident. This beer is heavy and sweet, with ever present hops and a warming of alcohol in the finish. Warning, this beer can sneak up on you, as the 9% ABV, is not as strong tasting as some other beers. smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 13, 2007 Pours brownish black w/ a shallow, semi cremy froth that quickly reduces to laced finger print splotches. Aroma of sweet, black malts w/ mild roasted esprsso. Full nectar w/ abundant residual effers. Goes down like velvet. This one really hits the spot w/ a serious roast component. The moderate sweetness factors in well with the huge hops that provoke my next sip. The hops dig in leaving very little room for the sweet, charred malts. Not a chance. This one wants you to drink another and another. Nuances are earthy w/ leather, charcoal, meat, coffee bean, and cocoa. The finish is bittered excessively w/ hop acid leaving only a hint of sweetness. Overall: pull up a chair and listen to old grandad tell his stories, he brought a 12 pack don’t you know. Quite simple yet thorough.
Highly recommended. milewide (613), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

All the roasted malt flavors that you expect---but bitter and not sweet. Bitterness seems to come from burnt malt and not just hops. I like! Fine medium body. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 11, 2007 12 oz bottle from my friend Liz’s mom who drove this from Ohio all the way to Cali, Thanks. Glad to have this brew also considering I suffered (wording?) through that Blackout for 29 hours with out power. Pours beautifally into a big DFH snifter, black black black with a big pillowy light tan head. The aroma is full of maltiness, smoke and a bit of burnt something. The taste is quite nice, with a rounded chocolate flavor that complements the coffee notes in the taste. This is a damn good impy, yummers. POD (198), USA

Nice spice aroma w/hints of coffee. Big bold aromatic flavors of roast coffee, malt & chocolate. This stout ranks high on my list. Would drink it again anytime. asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2007 Bottle thanks to DrBayern! Pours a dark black color with a nice tan head on top. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, caramel, and coffee. Flavor is roasted malts and coffee, hints of sweet chocolate come in as well. The flavor is primarily roasty with sweetness coming in too. A very smooth imperial stout with not much of a sign of alcohol or syrupy thickness. I would like to drink this during a blackout! elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA
