Gorgeous character with huge homemade rye bread head. Espresso dark body that pours like motor oil. Meaty beaty big and bouncy.
Strong coffee bean aroma with slight pine and fairly grassy hop aroma - Heavy charred malt with slight molasses kick. Surprisingly very clean.
Sweet, creamy ultra-roasted malt with mocha/chocolate syrup and lots of BBQ char. This is solid, well-balanced stuff.
Mouthfeel is luxurious. Full and deep coffee and slight earthy feel with a clean, powerful, long finish.
For the wallop and extra full flavor of this offering it is very clean drinking. One of the best...this is prime real estate.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 29, 2009 Opaque black in color with a nice head that lasts throughout. Smells of chocolate and rich roasted coffee and a very rich malt background. Oily mouthfeel. Deep rich chocolate with bitter roasted malts make this beer fairly complex with other flavors of toffee, figs, raisins, and maybe a hint of vanilla. Has a nice warming effect. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Pours a near black brown with thin tan head that sticks around for a little while, minimal lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, decent hops, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is similar with the addition of caramel, slight sweetness, and a bit of dried fruit. A bit warm, not sure if it needs to age and mellow or if that is how it will stay. Very solid otherwise. slitcher (103), Freeport, Illinois, USA

Chocolate, coffee and brown sugar; taste is the same. Very creamy and smooth; extrememly drinkable for the style. Very nice. Another winner from Great Lakes. fromred2green (170), , Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours coal black/pitch black with a medium tan head. Aroma is of coffee with a small amount of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is coffee, sweet chocolate, and a hint of alcohol. Best Imperial Stout I’ve ever had, very drinkable and smooth for this style, and for any beer with a 9% ABV for that matter. Would reccommend to anyone. sinkr (241), Lusby, Maryland, USA

Chocolate aroma and taste. Very enjoyable, however it is a little thick on the palate. I’d say pretty middle of the road for this class of beer. nuplastikk (1227), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 8, 2009 12oz bottle. Opaque pitch black. Very smooth, mellow, and roasty. Some coffee in the aroma. Easy drinking for the style, very creamy, almost lactic. I like this one because its no nonsense, no syrupy overly cocoa..none of that. Classic Imp Stout. Well done.
